The SLR-D unit includes a microprocessor control top section with waterproof keyboard and display The bottom section includes a control board, safety board, heating element, mechanical stirrer, lamp and two optical sensors, and a standard beaker with dual ring holder. The mechanical stirrer is specially designed not to influence the falling of the balls and to insure good temperature homogeneity inside the beaker. Microprocessor control ! Automatic logging of bitumen softening point ! LCD display Softening point is a fundamental property of binders, other than cut-back and emulsions. EN, ASTM, and BS use similar apparatus and procedures and the test is often referred to as the Ring and Ball Test. The test is performed in duplicate under closely controlled conditions. Water is used as the bath medium for binders with softening points below 80 deg. C. Above this temperature, glycol is used in place of water. The Automatic Ring and Ball Apparatus features microprocessor control with automatic logging of the bitumen softening point. Temperature is measured via a precision PT100 sensor and the softening point value taken automatically by two photoelectric cells. The device comes complete with the ring and ball frame, magnetic stirrer, two test rings, two 9.5 mm diameter test balls, one knife, and one 600 mm diameter glass beaker.
