首篇(issue 17) 献给 战友小宁同学, 辛苦啦~ 我还在找感觉,ets 的文风和思维模式和我自己的不一样。 The reason why general education system is regarded as an fetter by the speaker is probably that the formal education emphasizing on remembering some kinds of basic knowledge turns out to be dull and tedious to students who keen on improving their competence. And that is where I totally agree. The following is the analysis of that assertion’s origin from a status quo view and my opinion of the formal education. Currently, the ever-lasting employment pressure among students gives their parents who have an expectation of their offspring's life a strong motivation to urge their children to learn more and deeper than before. The reflection of the parents' demand is expanded in society. Thus, in order to meet the demand, most schools may develop a series course which can, in the first glance, enhance the effect of schooling and hence, more or less conciliate parents' worries. For those adolescent having little idea about what are crucial elements needed to cultivated due to their age, accepting what schooling offers seems an unavailable choice. And the problem is that, demonstrated by various cases in different countries, the relative administrative department unwisely develops basic education only in the way adding excessive memorizing facts and knowledge. Consequently, it gives individuals not a freedom of mind and spirit but a suppressing. The real education which can broaden our horizon and enlighten out mind is that a long-term cultivation of the ability of critical thinking, logical reasoning, problem solving, and universal values. Granted that knowledge is substantially significant to the development of human history, which, superficially, is supposed to be the most noted characterization of schooling, however, as the technique developing, it is convenient to get access to relative information. For example, an American high school student even constructed a mini nuclear weapon by searching reference materials via google and purchasing on the internet. Moreover, people who obtained distinguished accomplishment mostly depended on what they acquired after they graduated. Thomas Edison, a world well-known American inventor, dropped out since he was 9 years old and began his apprenticeship. That entire separation form formal education in his early age did not hinder him to have idea to create. Obviously, teacher never told you how to make yourself a nuclear weapon or how to become an inventor armed with what textbooks have told. I am not implying that a good education enables students do something remarkably special or be a celebrity like Thomas Edison, by that I mean, the authority is well-advised to think about it thoroughly concerning the real need of students, then, immediately, put it into practice. Only in that way should one can claim that the formal education can truly illuminate the mind of students’. In sum, the formal education system cannot serve as the illumination of both mind and spirit.
