—It must be Carla's.She loves volleyball.

 4.—Whose hair band is this?

—It could be Mei's hair band.Or it might belong to Linda.They both have long hair.

 Key structure:

 must/could/might/can't+be+somebody's

must/could/might/can't+belong to+somebody

eg:—Whose volleyball is this?

—It must be Carla's.She loves volleyball.

—Whose hair band is this?

—It could be Mei's hair band.Or it might belong to Linda.They both have long hair.

★Step 1 Leading in 【新课导入】

1.Greeting

2.Brainstorming

In three groups,have a competition to write words,collecting words about clothing,fun things and kitchen things.

Then ask three students to write their words on the blackboard.

3.Read aloud the words.

★Step 2 Cooperative inquiry 【合作探究】

1.Finish the task in 1a.

Ask students to look at the pictures and write things they see in the correct columns in the chart.

2.Finish the task in 1b

①Read the instructions.

②Play the recording for the first time.

③Play the recording a second time.Ask students to match the reasons with the things.

④Check the answers with the whole class.Play the recording again.

3.Finish the task in 1c

4.Finish the tasks in 2a-2b

①Ask the students to review the words of school things.Ask:What do you usually have in your schoolbags?

②Play the recording for the first time.Students listen and fill in the words in 2a.

③Ask “Who do you think the schoolbag belongs to?” Get students to use “could/might/must and can't” to answer.

④Play the recording for the second time.Students listen and fill in the blanks in 2b.

⑤Check the answers with the whole class.

5.Finish the task in 2c

6.Finish the task in 2d

①Ask continually about Linda to make a reasonable inference.

What might Linda feel?

②Ask the students to read aloud the conversation in 2d and find the sentences with inferences.Learn the new words and phrases.

③Explain the sentences:

It might still be in the music hall.

So it can't be stolen.

I think somebody must have picked it up.

④Get the students to practice reading aloud.Then ask two pairs to role-play the conversation.

★Step 3 Homework

1.Role-play the conversation in 2d.

2.Make a conversation to talk about things and their owners.And give the reasons of your inferences.

3.Translate the following sentences into English.

(1)这本书肯定是李斌的,这是他的笔迹。(hand-writing)

 Teaching Reflection 【教学反思】

   This is the first period of the unit.The most important thing is to get the students to learn and practice making inference.We use real things to help practice speaking and make language situation for the students to learn and practice the target languages.We'd better teach new words and structures while listening,speaking and reading.We should learn the modal verbs by comparing them and getting the students to say them out.
