高校英文简介 As one of the key national universities directly under the Ministry of Education in China, Beijing Forestry University (BFU) provides the advanced education in the studies of forestry and ecological environment. It was one of the first universities to be admitted into the "211 Project" (the major project sponsored and funded by the government for the construction of top 100 key universities in China in the 21st century) and the 21st-century Educational Vitalization Action Program. Located in the internationally well-known Zhong Guan Cun Hi-Tech Zone, the university was originally the forestry department of the Royal University (the predecessor of Beijing University) of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). After the foundation of the university in 1952, a number of distinguished experts and professors from Peking University (now Beijing University), Tsinghua University and Beijing Agriculture University were transferred to the university, which has inherited their rigorous style and discipline in academic pursuits. Decades of effort has developed it into a comprehensive university characterized by forestry, environmental science and biology, with well-coordinated multi-disciplines of science, engineering, management, economics, law, liberal arts and agriculture. After entering the "211 Project" in 1995, the university reached the standard set by the municipal government for the beautification of campuses in 1996, and won the title of the "Campus as Beautiful as Gardens in Beijing" five years later. In 2000, it established the Graduate School, the only one among the forestry universities and colleges nationwide, and a stock company of science and technology. BFU, as one of the key institutions of higher education in China, is the cradle of professionals specialized in advanced technology of multi-disciplines including forestry, soil and water conservation, landscape gardening, biotechnology, construction of ecological environment and economic management. Since its establishment 50 years ago, more than 30,000 students and a number of foreign students have graduated from the university, and among them 11 have attained to the positions of academicians. The university possesses a well-formed faculty composed of 956 full-time teachers, including 5 academicians, 496 full and associate professors While making an effort to enrich its discipline category and optimize the discipline structure, the university not only possesses the traditional disciplines which are recognized for their high quality both at home and abroad, but also has established a large number of new disciplines to meet the development of the society. There are 15 schools subordinate to the university, namely Graduate School, Biological Science and Technology, Landscape Architecture, Forestry, Environmental Science and Engineering, Soil and Water Conservation, Industry, Information Science, Material Science and Technology, Science, Natural Conservation, Economic Management, Humanistic and Social Sciences, Foreign Languages, Vocational Training and Adult Education. The university boasts advanced Computer Center, Computer Network Center, Modern Educational Center, Audio-Visual Teaching Center, Biological Center, Micro-Technology Center, Forest Organism Center, and a forest farm for teaching and research (Jiu Feng National Forest Park). Attached to the university are the Foreign Language Training Center of the State Forestry Administration, the Research Center of Soil Control Technology of Loess Plateau in China, the Training Center of Desertification Control of ChinaQuiet and beautifully laid out, BFU is a well-equipped modern university featured by the magnificent Central Building of Teaching, the first-rate gymnasium, advanced laboratories and practice bases, and the colorful, high-speed campus network. The computerized checking system has been set up for all the books in the library, and located in the library building is the Imported Teaching Materials Center for the forestry universities and colleges nationwide. The construction of the modern high-rise student apartment building and the new classroom building was completed in 2001, both of which have been put to use. In recent years, nearly 200 achievements of scientific research received rewards from the national, provincial and ministerial authorities, and more than 20 achievements of teaching were rewarded by the national and municipal governments. BFU is engaged in the international academic exchanges and cooperation with more than 150 universities and research institutions of over 20 countries and districts in the world, providing opportunities for the contacts between China and the outside world in the researches of forestry and ecological environment. BFU also provides a favorable atmosphere for teaching and learning, combining the acquisition of professional knowledge with the improvement of the all-round abilities, with the emphasis on forging the rigorous style in academic pursuit and creativity. The systems of optional courses, subsidiary courses, course exemption and bachelor-to-master continuation education have been established so that the students are able to develop themselves according to their own interests and wishes. The university also offers colorful extracurricular activities to enrich the life on the campus, which are organized by numerous student societies and associations in science and technology, art, sports, environmental protection, and politics, etc. Some of them have become quite influential in the society, such as the Society of Scientific Exploration and Wilderness Survival and the Association of Beijing College Volunteers for Environmental Protection, and the former received the "Prize of the Earth", the highest prize from the National Bureau of Environmental Protection. In recent years, the students of BFU won 4 prizes consecutively at the College Students' Landscape Gardening Architecture Design Competitions sponsored by UNESCO and the International Association of Landscape Gardening Architects, as well as the Golden Prize of International College Students' Architecture Design and the prizes for Gardening Design Competitions. Excellent achievements were also made in the competitions of scientific inventions, mathematics, and art organized domestically. In the new century, Beijing Forestry University will continue the construction of disciplines, strengthen educational reform, and promote academic exchanges with the universities in the other countries, and strive for greater development and new contributions. Hunan University, situated at the foot of the picturesque Yuelu Hill and on the west bank of the rippling Xiang River in the historically and culturally renowned City of Changsha, capital city of Hunan Province, is honored as an "Ancient Millenarian Academy, Famous Centennial University". It is one of the key universities affiliated with the Ministry of Education and is now included in the state's "Project 211" and "Project 985" for priority investment and construction. Professor Liu Keli and Professor Zhao Yueyu are respectively the Party secretary of the CPC Hunan University Committee and the president of the university. Hunan University, dating back to Yuelu Academy's foundation in 976 A.D., is one of the four famous Academies of the Song Dynasty. The university has maintained its culture and education even through the many changes during the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. It was reconstructed into Hunan Higher School in 1903, renamed Hunan University in 1926, and subordinated to the Republic of China's Ministry of Education as one of several state universities in 1937. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Central People's Government appointed Li Da, a well-known philosopher and educator, the first president of Hunan University after liberation. Chairman Mao Zedong inscribed the name of the University. In 1953, in the readjustment of the institutions of higher education of China, Hunan University was named the Central-South Institute of Civil Engineering, then Hunan Polytechnic College, and was finally, renamed Hunan University in 1959. Since 1963, the University has been affiliated with the Ministry of Mechanical Industry. In 1978, it was approved as a key university of China, and became directly affiliated with the Ministry of Education in 1998. In 2000, Hunan University and Hunan Institute of Finance and Economics merged to create a new Hunan University. Carrying on good educational tradition during the long history of personnel cultivation, Hunan University has focused on the pith of the admonition of "Seeking Truth from Facts; Daring to be Pioneers" and the style of "Be Profound, Intelligent, Diligent and Dedicated to the Pursuit of Knowledge", and taken shape of distinctive teaching featuring "solid foundation, active thinking, strong adaptability, and good comprehensive quality". Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the university has produced more than 160,000 senior professionals, of whom large numbers of the graduates have grown into academic expertise, entrepreneurs and managers in governmental departments, and 13 alumni have been elected as members of the Chinese Academy of Science or the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The University now has the Graduate School and 23 colleges and departments. Professional disciplines involve 11 subject categories, such as philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, and medicine, offering 25 first-order disciplines authorized to confer Ph.D. degrees, 41 first-order disciplines authorized to confer Master's degree, 20 academic degree authorizations, 2 key first-order disciplines at the national level and 14 key second-order disciplines at the national level, and 17 post-doctoral programs. It has a staff of over 4,700 with a faculty of nearly 1900, of which, nearly 1,200 are professors and associate professors, 4 are members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 6 are invited-members of both Chinese Academies of Sciences and Engineering, 20 are members of the state's Thousands Talents Program, 21 are Cheongkong Chair Professors, 13 gain the financial support from the National Outstanding Youth Fund, 5 are members of the Academic Degree Commission under the State Council, 20 are members of the state's Outstanding Talents Project of the 21st century, 71 are New Century Excellent Talents in support programs of the Ministry of Education, 19 are chair professors of the Lotus Scholarship Program of Hunan Province, 185 are Council Experts for Special Allowance, 4 are winners of the National Distinguished Teacher Prizes, and 7 innovative teams are supported by Program for Cheongkong Scholars and Innovative Research Team in University. The student body totals nearly 30,000, of which over 20,400, are undergraduates and 11,000 are graduates. The University has established the national basic-course teaching bases in engineering (chemistry), the national undergraduates' cultural-quality education base, 7 national-level teaching teams, 6 bilingual model courses, 6 innovation experiment fields for talent cultivation, and 3 national model experimental teaching centers. In recent years, the University has had a lot of achievements, such as one Special Award, 3 First Prizes, 11 Second and Third Prizes in the National Teaching Achievement, and gained 25 national Excellent Courses. In the past fiveyears, students from Hunan University have won nearly 900 awards for the contests above provincial level, including first prize of the National Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Work Competition, champion of the CCTV Cup English Speaking Contest, first prize of the Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM), and perseverance award of the Formula SAE. Hunan University has been equipped with 2 state key laboratories, 1 national engineering technology research center, 5 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 5 provincial or ministerial-level engineering technology centers, 12 key laboratories of Hunan Province, and 13 provincial-level social science research bases of Hunan Province. In the past decade, it has undertaken around 9,000 scientific research projects at various levels, gained 1 second-class award of the national natural science, 1 national first-class award of the Science and Technology Advancement, 16 national second-class awards of the Science and Technology Advancement, 3 second-class awards of the Outstanding Achievements for Humanities and Social Sciences at Universities. Besides, technopark co., ltd. and 53 advance-level platforms for Enterprise-University-Research Institute have been set up, and the base of Enterprise-University-Research Institute Cooperation has been established in Lugu High-tech Industrial Park. The Enterprise-University-Research Institute Cooperation relationship has covered 32 provinces (districts, cities) and 400 plus enterprises. The university has established academic exchanges with 104 universities and research institutes across the world. Experts recruited every year have come to over 300 for long or short terms. Long-term overseas students from over 40 countries and areas reach around 1000. Confucius Institute of Hunan University, jointly cooperated by Hunan University and Honam University, has become the first overseas Confucius institute set up jointly by Hunan province. The university covers a total area of 1,396,000 square meters with a construction area of over 981,400 square meters. With a total collection of over 4.8 million books and a digital resource (Chinese and English) size of 3,9123 GB, the university is equipped with the advanced campus network of IPv6, and the 10Gb wired cable backbone network above the ground has covered all the teaching buildings, office buildings and students' apartments, accompanied by the simultaneous coverage of the wireless campus network. The computers connected by the campus network have amounted to over 30, 000, with the exit bandwidth of 3.5 G, hence the digital campus is around the corner. Furthermore, the National Supercomputing Center in Changsha is under construction. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, has always received great care and high appraise from the senior leaders of both the Central Government and local authority, such as Liu Shaoqi, Hua Guofeng, Hu Yaobang, Jiang Zemin, Zhu Rongji and Wen Jiabao, who came and inspected Hunan University and wrote the inscription of "Cradle of the Talents of Xiang and Chu", "The Kingdom of Chu, unique home of talents; today's academy of Yuelu, the prosperous cradle of all", and "Ancient Millenarian Academy, Famous Centennial University". The university is located on Jinpenling and Yuntang Campuses, with an area of 210.56 hectares (equivalent to 3158.4mu) and a total floor space of 1173000 square meters. The university has fixed assets totaling 1.9 billion yuan (around US$ 291.1 million), among which the apparatus and equipment for teaching and research are valued at 285 million yuan. The university has a collection of more than 3,628,700 books and a Gigabit Backbone Networking system. It is accredited to confer master’s degrees to those with equivalent academic attainments and to confer master of engineering and MBA and other five types of professional master degrees. It has 7 key disciplines at provincial or ministerial level, 21 key specialties at provincial level. The university also establishes 13 key laboratories at provincial or ministerial level, 7 research bases of Philosophy and Social Sciences at provincial level, 6 demonstration laboratories for basic courses at provincial level, 20 excellent Bases for Educational Practices at provincial level.
