The safety and efficacy tests of goat pox attenuated vaccine

Abstract
Goat pox cases have been remerging in Taiwan since April 2010. Till July 5, there
thwere 260 farms and 18,198 goats slaughtered. From 25 of June, goat pox vaccine has
been allowed to be used in each county. The purpose of the act is to control the outbreak within 2 to 3 weeks. In order to secure the safety and efficacy of the attenuated live vaccine, KSGP 0240, imported from Jordan, the study used mutton and milk goats to conduct safety test, efficacy test and potency test for the vaccine. The results show that the vaccine is qualified in every test. The result of the efficacy test is in accordance with the OIE guideline, which states that the titers of virus
2.5neutralizing index in immune mutton and milk goats must be 10 times higher than
that in the un-immune mutton and milk goats. The vaccine is also safe to mutton and milk goats according to the results of field test. It means the vaccine will not affect the milk yield. There was no abortion and deadbirth record in the pregnant dairy goat in this study.
