NanyinMusicisoneoftheoldestexistingmusicgenres(流派)inChina,whichhasexistedfor1,000years.NanyinMusicoriginatedfromroyalpalacemusic,andlaterestablisheditselfinSouthChinawhenthecourtmusiciansmigratedtothesouth.BeginningfromtheWesternandEasternHanDynastiesandespeciallyduringtheTangDynasty,peopleinCentralChinaimmigratedtotheMinnanAreatoescapethecivilwars.Theybroughtalongtheirmusicculture,whichlaterblendedintothelocalfolkmusic,andbecameanewmusicgenre:Nanyinmusic. NanyinMusicwasmainlyperformedusingthedongxiao(洞箫),thenanpa(横颈琵琶),theerxian(二弦),thesanxian(三弦)andthepaiban(拍板).
