Disturbed by the illicit trade in Small Arms and Lights Weapons,
Acknowledging the useful and vital role of regional organizations to work in cooperation
with the United Nations to monitor and limit the illicit trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in 7 safeguarding the recently established peace and security,
Acknowledging the efforts achieved by the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration
program(UNDDR),
Recalling Resolution S/RES/1540 adopted by the Security Council on 28 April 2004 which reminds all Member States toi mplement fully the disarmament treaties and agreements to which they are a party,

Realizing the greater consensus, greater support, higher probability ofc onflict resolution, and greater ability to gather support of third party states when regional organizations are involved in disarmament of post conflict regions,
Noting with regret that the Program of Action to Prevent, Combat, and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and LightWeapons in all its Aspects(PAPC) has not been strictly adhered to,
1.Encourages regional organizations to work in close cooperation with the Disarmament,
Demobilization,and Reintegration Program to facilitate the efforts for peacemaking,
peacebuilding, and peacekeeping;
2. Supports the newly formed Integrated Disarmament, Demobilization, and
Reintegration Standards as a means of reinserting ex-combatants into society to
help facilitate the post-conflict reconstruction to create stable economies;
3. Stresses the need for regional organizations to work with Member States securing and
controlling their individual borders to prevent the arming of rebel groups that can
create in stability and conflict in regions.
