从外籍编委审校英文学报看中译英常见的问题 3 郭　霞　徐正一　张　艳　李长复 (《农业生物技术学报》编辑部　caucjab@ gmail. com　北京市　100193) 摘 　要 　用英文发表文章不仅是国际交流的需要 ,也是研究成果评估的一个 标准 excel标准偏差excel标准偏差函数exl标准差函数国标检验抽样标准表免费下载红头文件格式标准下载 。但大部分科研工作者 英文稿件的表达水平较差 ,常令外籍审稿专家无法修改。从 Chinese Journal of Agricultural B iotechnology (CJAB) (《中国农业生物技术学报 》(英文版 ) )已发表文章的编辑修改过程中 ,我们发现四种主要问题 : 1 意思表述不清楚 ,中国式英语 ; 2句子不精练 ,结构繁琐 ; 3句子不完整 ,缺少谓语或介词等 ; 4谓语动词不 确切或同一动词多次重复。针对以上问题 ,作者列举了具有代表性的例句并给出了正确的答案 ,同时提出 了提高中译英文章可读性的五项建议。 关键词 　英文稿件 　文章修改 　建议 Abstract　The purpose of publishing papers in English is not only for the international communication but also for the evaluation and p romotion of research work. However, most of the contributions are poor in English, which makes native English editors hopeless for revision. . This paper discusses four kinds of p roblem s found in the edi2 ting and revising of the English articles published in Chinese Journal of Agricultural B iotechnology (CJAB). 1, Chinglish, ideas unclear in exp ressison and hard for app rehension; 2, Lengthy sentences needed to be reformulat2 ed concisely; 3, Uncomp leted sentences, something m issing; 4, The verb is not suitable and the conjugate verb is absent. A number of examp les are listed for demonstrating and correcting these four types of errors. In the end, five suggestions are made to imp rove the effectiveness and readability of English articles in translation. . Key W ords　 English2writing p roblem editing　revising　suggestion 　　近年来 ,英文稿件越来越受到重视。用英 文发表文章不仅是国际交流的需要 ,也是研究 成果评估的一个标准 [ 1 ]。但大部分科研工作者 英文稿件的表达水平较差 ,常令外籍审稿专家 无法修改。找翻译公司翻译 ,价格高又翻译得 不很准确。因此 ,如何提高英文稿件的表达水 平已成为许多科研工作者亟待解决的问题。 Chinese Jou rna l of A g ricu ltu ra l B iotechnology (中国农业生物技术学报 , CJAB ) 是中国农业 大学分别和 CAB International (200422006)和英 国剑桥大学出版社 ( 2006 至今 )合作出版的英 文版刊物。CJAB的文章选自在国际上可能引 起兴趣的近期出版的《农业生物技术学报 》上 的文章。经过翻译和外籍专家修改 ,以及作者 校对 (此稿发给 CJAB主编 )等一系列程序 ,最 后在国外编辑出版发行 ( ISSN 1479 - 2362 )。 CJAB已成为国际同行了解中国生物技术研究 水平的重要刊物。作为合作出版者 ,《农业生物 技术学报 》编辑部拥有文章编译进程中的所有 版本 (中文稿件、译稿、修改稿、校样和正式出版 的英文文章 )。通过对部分文章的系列的修改 校对的比较 ,我们发现英文译文主要有 4个方 面问题。本文分别列举了这 4个方面的例句并 提供了正确的答案 ,同时提出了如何提高英文 文章可读性的 5项建议。希望能对一些作者写 英文摘要或文章有所帮助。 1　中国式英语 ,意思表述不清 中国式英语是由中国式的语法与英语词汇 组合而成 [ 2 ]。这种英语单从语法结构上看 ,挑 不出什么问题 ,中国人一看就明白表达的是什 么意思 ,甚至给人一种非常“流利 ”的印象 ,但 外国人看着却晦涩难懂 [ 3 ]。 1. 1整段 内容 财务内部控制制度的内容财务内部控制制度的内容人员招聘与配置的内容项目成本控制的内容消防安全演练内容 字对字翻译 例 1其中杂种特异表达 (杂种特异表达而 亲本不表达 )条带 3条 ,杂种增强表达 (杂种表 达量高于亲本 )条带 1条 ,分别命名为 EE /CC2 1, EE /CC22, EE /CC23和 EE /CC24, 差异显示 图谱见图 1. 第 22卷 3期 2009年 8月 中国科技翻译 CH INESE SC IENCE & TECHNOLOGY TRANSLATORS JOURNAL Vol. 22. There were two fertile isolates found to be opposite in mating type when tested by GUY11 /KA3 and PCR, i. e. the PCR2tested MAT122 isolate 96024 could mate with GUY11 (MAT121) and the PCR2 tested MAT121 isolate 98011 could mate with KA3 (MAT122). 1. 2一字不漏的翻译 ,词义重叠或造成困惑 在汉语中 ,有时因为音韵的需要或修辞的 需要而添加某个词。如果将这样的词“字对 字 ”地译成英语 ,这些字在英文中将变成赘 词 [ 4 ]。 例 3 3月龄左右的山羊胎儿 ,从屠宰场获 得 ,胎膜完整 ,浸泡在 0. 9%生理盐水中 , 4℃贮 存。 译文 : Three months post coitum Goat fetus were collected from the slaughterhouse, stored at 4℃ and m arina ted in 0. 9% NaCl. 修改注释 : Is the term of“m a rina ted”app ro2 p riate here? 最后修订 : Goat fetuses, 3 months post2co2 itum, were collected from the slaughterhouse and stored at 4 ℃ in 0. 9% NaCl. 例 4另一类是形态较大、呈圆形、聚集生长 的细胞。 译文 : ⋯ and big round cells which grew con2 g rega ted ly. 修改注释 : W hat does“grew congrega ted ly” mean here? 最后修订 : ⋯ and big, round cells which congregated. 2　句子累赘 ,结构繁琐 [ 5 - 6 ] 由于多数句子是句对句的翻译 ,结构上不 符合英文的习惯用法 ,显得非常繁琐。英语一 句话或一个词就可以表达清楚 ,而我们绕了很 大一圈 ,意思也表达不清楚。这类句子在翻译 中出现的非常多。 例 5尽管柑橘不育、低育资源多样性水平 比较高 , ⋯⋯ 译文 : Though genetic diversity of sterile and low fertile germp lasm w as ra ther affluen t as herein revea led. ⋯ 最后修订 ( Correction) ———A lthough the ge2 netic diversity of sterile and low fertility germ2 p lasm w as h igh. 例 6如果扩增成功 ,用 6%变性聚丙烯酰 胺凝胶分离。 译文 : A fter the program w as over, PCR prod2 ucts w ere separa ted in 6% denatured polyacrylam2 ide gel. 最后修订 : The am plif ica tion w as m onitored through electrophoresis in 6% denatured polyacryl2 am ide gel. 例 7在过去的研究中 ,人们陆续分离得到 了花青素合成途径中的一系列结构基因和调节 21 中国科技翻译　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　 　　22卷　 基因。 译文 : Several research works have previously m en tioned the in troduction of regulatory genes into p lants. 最后修订 : Several investigations have in tro2 duced regulatory genes into p lants. 例 8测序结果表明 ,所克隆的启动子大小 为 355 bp,将测序的结果与文献报道的启动子 序列进行比较 ,相似性为 99 %。 译文 : Then, the pX Y355 construct was se2 quenced. The random amp lified polymorphic DNA ( RAPD ) technique w as perform ed on 30 sam ples, using 20 random p rimers. 3　句子不完整 ,有缺词现象或省略应用不当 3. 1句子明显缺词 由于字对字的翻译 ,句中用中文表达清楚 的内容 ,英文中如不添加相关借词 ,句子的意思 就变了 ,或不通顺。 例 10羊胎儿 mGSCs被同质化过程中 ,同 源细胞增多 ,使得残余集落细胞得以存在。 译文 : During homogenization of fetus goat mGSCs, homologous cells of mGSCs increased and caused rest cells in the clusters ex isting. 修改注释 : Very unclear! ! ! Some thing is m issing! ! ! 最后修订 : During homogenization of fetal goat mGSCs, the number of homologous cells of mGSCs increased to cause the mGSCs to ex ist as clusters. 例 11在小鼠成纤维细胞饲养层上接种的 山羊胎儿睾丸细胞 , (在培养到 72 h时 )能见到 形态变化的集落 ,集落中细胞出现空泡。 译文 : On MEF feeding layer, the shape of mGSCs clusters changed and some cells in the center of clusters appeared em pty bubble. 修改注释 :W hat does this sentence mean? It seem s that something is m issing here. 最后修订 : On MEF feeding layer, the shape of mGSCs clusters changed and some cells in the center of clusters appeared as emp ty bubble. 3. 2省略不当 省略的内容看不出来是前面提到的哪一 个 ,容易引起误解。 例 12台湾株有 9个位点与 VR2332相同 , 有 3个位点与 HB21 ( sh) /2002系列株一致。 译文 : The Taiwan isolate was more sim ilar to VR2332 with 9 positions identity, w hereas 3 posi2 tions iden tica l to HB 21 ( sh) /2002. 修改注释 : This sentence is m issing some2 thing. Please comp lete⋯ 最后修订 : The Taiwan isolate wasmore sim i2 lar to VR2332 with identity at nine positions, whereas three positions of the Taiwan isolate were identical to HB 21 ( sh) /2002. 4　动词不确切或缺乏同义词 动词是句子中必要的一个成分。动词的措 辞 ( diction)要求准确和清楚 [ 7 ]。英语的动词很 多 ,有的词义差别不明显 ,因此 ,母语是非英语 的人应用这些动词实在是很困难 ,更不用说同 义词 ( vocabulary)的应用了。 4. 1动词不确切 例 13聚类分析表明本地广橘与温州蜜柑 有着紧密的亲缘关系 ,而与早橘、槾橘、本地早 等的亲缘关系较远。 译文 : Cluster analysis also revealed that sat2 suma mandarin had closer rela tedness w ith Ben2 diguangju mandarin than with Zaoju, Mankieh, Bendizao tangerine. 最后修订 : Cluster analysis also revealed that satsuma mandarin w as m ore closely rela ted to Ben2 31　3期　　　　　　　　郭　霞　徐正一　张　艳　李长复 :从外籍编委审校英文学报看中译英常见的问题 diguangju mandarin than to Zaoju, Mankieh, Bendizao tangerine. 例 14分离株与目前中国大陆所有报道的 Begomovirus存在明显的差异。⋯⋯推测该病 毒可能是通过带病植物 材料 关于××同志的政审材料调查表环保先进个人材料国家普通话测试材料农民专业合作社注销四查四问剖析材料 或介体烟粉虱传入 广东。 译文 : The isolate has an obviously diversity with the begomoviruses reported from Chinese Ma2 inland. ⋯ so we speculate that ToLCTWV was taken to Guangdong p rovince through diseased p lant materials or viruliferous whiteflies. 最后修订 : The isolate obviously d iffers from the begomoviruses reported from the Chinese Ma2 inland. ⋯ so we speculate that ToLCTWV has reached Guangdong p rovince via diseased p lant materials or viruliferous whiteflies. 例 15在 T4连接酶的作用下 ,将 X Y355的 片段与上述酶切处理过的 pQT56连接 ,得到重 组质粒 pXY60。 译文 : T4 DNA L igase m ade X Y355 p romoter cloned into the vector pQT56 rep lacing the CaMV 35S p romoter. 最后修订 : T4 DNA ligase enabled cloning of the X Y355 p romoter into the vector pQT56, rep la2 cing the CaMV 35S p romoter. Such a construct was named pXY60. 例 16将消毒的最后 1 次冲洗的无菌水所 涂平板作为对照 ,在 30 ℃下培养 48 h,平板中 无菌落出现表明灭菌彻底。 译文 : To check the sterilization efficacy, the last washing water was expanded on Nfb medium ( Eckert et a l. , 2001) and incubated at 30℃ for 48 h. 最后修订 : To check the sterilization effica2 cy, the last washing water was spread on Nfb me2 dium ( Eckert et a l. , 2001 ) and incubated at 30℃ for 48 h. 例 17 40个菌株固氮酶活性值均高于 500 nmol/mL /h (表 1) , ⋯⋯,菌株 z7固氮酶活性达 到 3790 nmol/mL /h。 译文 : The nitrogenase activity of 40 isolates ( Table 1 ) are more than 500 nmol. m l- 1. h - 1 , . . . Strain z7 recorded 3790 nmol. m l- 1. h - 1. 4. 2缺乏同义词的应用 例 18菌株 1、2和 3蛋白电泳图谱基本一 致 ,说明它们属于同一种蛋白质图谱类群 I。而 菌株 4、5和 6的蛋白图谱相似 ,为 类群 II。菌 株 7、8和 9为类群 III。菌株 10、11和 12为类 群 Ⅳ。菌株 14和 15属于类群 Ⅴ。 译文 : Strains of 1, 2 and 3 have the highly sim ilar p rotein patterns, consisted of group I . Protein patterns of group II showed as Fig. 2b, with the strains of 4, 5 and 6. Group III consisted of strain 7, 8 and 9, which showed almost identi2 cal p rotein patterns . The left strains of 13 and 14 also have sim ilar p rotein patterns group V. 最后修订 : Based on the sim ilarity of p roteins patterns, 1, 2 and 3 strains belonged to group I ; Group II com prised 4, 5 and 6 strains ; Group III consisted of 7, 8 and 9 strains ; 3 strains (10, 11 and 12 ) form ed group IV and the remaining strains (13 and 14) constitu ted group V . 5　提高英文稿件水平的建议 比较以上经常出现的 4种问题 ,第 1种和 第 3种是不懂中文的外籍专家无法修改的 ,第 2和第 4种如果专家有足够的时间和耐心是可 以修改的。为了使译文得以顺利的修改 ,提出 以下几点建议。 5. 1确认要表达的句子的完整性 要表达的句子不能缺项 ,要让外国读者看 明白 (参考 3中的例句 )。还有一种情况也可 以视为句子不完整 ,下面两个例句即没把要修 饰的中心词表达出来。 例 19结果证实 ,广东番茄黄化曲叶病是由 ToLCTWV的 1个分离物侵染引起的。 译文 : In conclusion, tomato yellow leaf curl disease in Shantou city of Guangdong p rovince was infected by an isolate of ToLCTWV (意为曲叶病 被侵染 ). 最后修订 : In conclusion, plan ts showing symp tom s of tomato yellow leaf curl disease in Shantou city of Guangdong p rovince was infected by an isolate of ToLCTWV (意为植株被侵染 ). 例 20利用这些调节基因转化花卉 ,成功地 改变了它们的花色。 41 中国科技翻译　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　 　　22卷　 译文 : The flower color of transgenic tobacco p lants was achieved by the maize regulatory gene R changed from p ink to intense red (意为花色被 实现了 ). 最后修订 : A change in flower color of trans2 genic tobacco p lants, from p ink to intense red, was achieved using the maize regulatory gene R (意为花色改变被实现了 ). 5. 2谨慎应用代词 如果不能肯定省略的内容不会引起疑惑 , 请把全部内容写出来 ,专家会帮助简练。 例 21原代培养的睾丸细胞出现 3个细胞 区域 ,是否显示了胎儿时期睾丸曲细精管的细 胞组成和分布特征 ?目前还不清除。另外 , 3个 细胞区域的出现可能是同质细胞迁移。 译文 : O riginal cultural cells appeared 3 are2 as, but we did not know whether it showed types and distribution of cells in fetus goat sem iniferous tubules. They m ight be happened for m igration of homogeneity cells. 修改注释 :“Three areas of original cells ap2 peared???? Pls re2write⋯ ; W hat is this“ it”? ; This sentence is unclear and has no meaning⋯ ; result from the⋯”? 最后修订 : Cells in the original culture sys2 tem appeared in three areas in 602mm p lates in this investigation, but we did not know whether the types and d istribu tion of cells in fetal goat sem i2 niferous tubules was the same. The cells in the three areas m ight be derived from m igration of homogeneous cells. 例 22片段亚克隆到 pMD18 - T,得到的质 粒命名为 pX Y355。 译 文 : The fragment was subcloned into pMD182T, which was named pX Y355 (意思是将 pMD182T命名 ). 最后修订 : The fragment was subcloned into pMD182T, and the resu lting plasm id named pX Y355. (意为将重组质粒命名 ) 英文版刊物是研究人员进行国际学术交流 的重要平台。非英语国家的学报能够同时用英 语发行刊物是科学出版者的主要目标。在中 国 ,从 1990年至 2003年 , 有 190多种英文版刊 物正式发表 [ 8 ] , 仅占所有中文出版期刊的 5% [ 9 ] ,也就是说 ,外国人只能了解很少一部分 中国出版刊物的内容。这说明可以用英文发表 文章的刊物太少了。如果我们用英文投稿的数 量多了 ,英文版的杂志也会逐步丰富起来。 6　参考文献 1 Aaleksandra M iÍak.
