TheLegendof1900Born,lived,anddiedonaship,thisisagrievingstory,aswellasalegendabouthim---DannyBoodmannT.D.LemonNineteenHundred---astoryintegratedageniuswithmusic,friendshipandsolitude.Musicishisperceptionaboutlife.Itwasmusicthatmadeup1900’sentirelife,whodriftedovertheVirginianwithoutsettingfootonlandandfinallychosetogonewiththewindastheexplosionoftheship.Hewassuchaperceptivemanthathecouldusehismusiclanguagetodescribeexactlywhatothersfelt.Seeingthesceneofhisplaying,Icouldn’thelpadoring:Whatamiraclethataguycouldusehistenfingersflowingonthekeysofapianoandmadeoutsuchwonderfulpiecesofmusic,eveninaterrifyingstorm!Asnotesfloatingonhisfingers,Isawasifhewastellinghissincerityandaffectionaboutlife.NotuntilthendidIrealizetheincrediblemeaningofmusic,whichcouldreflecttheinneremotionofaperson.Justas1900notes,‘Takeapiano.Thekeysbegin,thekeysend.Youknowthereareeighty-eightofthem,nobodycantellyouanydifferent.Theyarenotinfinite.Youareinfinite.Andonthesekeysthemusicthatyoucanmakeisinfinite.’Friendshipistheonlywarmthduringhislife.Thisisamoviewithoutaheroine.Onthecontrary,Maxtooktherolewhoconnectedhimwiththesociety,thusbringinghimthemostpreciousfriendship.Maxwastheonlypersonwhounderstoodhim,accompaniedhimandhelpedhimthroughouthissolitude.‘What’sthematter?Loseyoursealegs?’Thissentencewitnessedthebeginningoftheirfriendship,aswellasthefirstglanceaftertheirlongseparation.Maxdidn’tinsistedon1900’sgettingoffVirginian,forheunderstoodthereason1900chosetogonewiththewind.Igraduallyunderstandthepoweroffellowshipbetweentwomen,impressiveandsensitive.Solitudeishisfatefloatingonthesea.1900wasbornontheship,grewupthereandspenthiswholelifethere,onlywithapiano.Nothingintheworldbelongstohimexcepthismusic.Rememberthescene?WhenVirginianpulledintotheshore,thecabincametoatotalsilenceallofasudden,leaving1900behind,sittinginfrontofthepiano,gloomyandlonely.Whatapoorguy!Nothingcouldrescuehimfromloneliness,andhewasanabandoneeratherthanagenius.1900eventuallyrefusedtogetofftheship.Hesaid,‘Thereareeighty-eightkeysonapiano,buttherearemillionsofkeys,millionsandbillionsofkeysoutsidetheship,neverends.’That’swhathesaidanddid.Youmayconfuseabouthischoice,butIdonot.Therearemillionsofpeoplewhoholdtheirdreamsdeepinheartwithoutcarryingthemoutandtheyaretheones1900represents.However,wewerebornonGod’spiano,thuswearedoomedtosufferfrustrationsandcreatethemostelegantpieceofmusicinthistinyworld.Noonewasborngenius,butwecanforgeourselvesaconscientiousandearnestone.Dorememberthatallthecompromisesareforthesakeofourdreams.
