Objectives · To learn to understand and use second conditional sentences · To listen and speak about what you would do Procedures · Warming up by studying the second conditional sentence Hello, class. We learned the structure “What will you do?” a long time ago. This time we will learn to understand and use “What you would do?” Do you see the differences between them? The structure of a second conditional sentence Like a first conditional, a second conditional sentence consists of two clauses, an "if" clause and a main clause: if clause main clause If I had a million dollars, I would buy a big house. If the "if" clause comes first, a comma is usually used. If the "if" clause comes second, there is no need for a comma: main clause if clause I would buy a big house if I had a million dollars. We use different verb forms in each part of a second conditional: if clause if + subject + simple past verb* main clause subject + would + verb 1a Talking and adding We have heard sentences like: What will you do if you have a lot of money? This sentence is OK. It is right to say that way. But if we talk about imaginary situations, we can say: What would you do if you had a lot of money? Now add more ideas to the list on page 26. If I had a lot of money, I would give it to charity. If I had a lot of money, I would buy snacks. If I had a lot of money, I would give it to Hope Project.
