M: Christmas is round the corner and I’m looking for a gift for my girlfriend. Any suggestions? W: Well, you have to tell me something about your girlfriend first. Also, what’s your budget? Q: What does the woman want the man to do? .12.M: What would you like for dessert? I think I’ll have apple pie and ice cream. W: The chocolate cake looks great. But I have to watch my weight, you go ahead and get yours. Q: What will the woman most probably do? 13.W: Having visited so many countries, you must be able to speak several different languages! M: I wish I could. But Japanese and, of course English are the only languages I can speak. Q: What do we learn from the conversation? 14.M: Prof. Smith asked me to go to his office after class. So it is impossible for me to make it to the bar at 10:00. W: Then it seems we’ll have to meet an hour later at the library. Q: What will the man do first after class? 15.M: It’s already 11:00 now. Do you mean I ought to wait until Prof. Bloom comes back from class? W: Not really. You can just leave a note. I’ll give it to her later. Q: What does the woman mean? 16.M: How’s John now? Is he feeling any better? W: Not yet. It still seems impossible to make him smile. Talking to him is really difficult. And he gets upset easily over little things. Q: What do we learn about John from the conversation? 17.M: Do we have to get the opera tickets in advance? W: Certainly! Tickets at the door are usually sold at a higher price. Q: What does the woman imply? 18.M: The taxi driver must have been speeding. W: Well, not really! He crashed into the tree because he was trying not to hit a box that had fallen off the truck ahead of him. Q: What do we learn about the taxi driver? 完形填空6 The part of the environmental movement that draws my firm’s attention is the design of cities’ buildings and products. When we designed America’s first so-called “green” office building in New York two decades ago, we felt very alone. But today, thousands of people come to green building conferences, and the idea that buildings can be good for people and the environment will be increasingly influential in years to come. Back in 1984 we discovered that most manufactured products for decoration weren’t designed for indoor use. The “energy-efficient” sealed commercial buildings constructed after the 1970s energy crisis revealed(D) indoor air quality problems caused by materials such as paint, wall covering and carpet. So far 20 years, we’ve been focusing on these materials downto the molecules, looking for ways to make them safe for people and the planet. Home builders can now use materials-such as paints that release significantly reduced amounts of organic compounds-that don’t destroy the quality of the air, water, or soil. Ultimately, however, our basic design strategy is focused not simply on being “less bad” but on creating completely healthful materials that can be either safely returned to the soil or reused by industry again and again. As a matter of fact, the world’s largest carpet manufacturer has already developed a carpet that is fully and safely recyclable (可循环用的). Look at it this way: No one starts out to create a building that destroys the planet. But our current industrial systems are inevitably causing these conditions, whether we like it or not. So instead of simply trying to reduce the damage, we are adopting a positive approach. We’re giving people high-quality, healthful products and an opportunity to make choices that have a beneficial effect on the world. It’s not just the building industry, either. Entire cities are taking these environmentally positive approaches to design, planning and building. Portland, Seattle and Boston have said they want to be green cities. Chicago wants to be the greenest city in the world. 翻译 87. Our efforts will pay off if the results of this research can be applied to the development of the new technology. 88. I can’t boot my computer now. Something must be wrong with its operation system. 89. Leaving one’s job, whatever job it is/ no matter what job it is, is a difficult change even for those who look forward to retiring. 90. Compared with the place where I grew up,this town is more prosperous and exciting. 91. Not until he had finished the missiondid he realize that he was seriously ill.
