We will have a godd look at the tree in the morning.” The next morning, they all went out to look at the tree. “Oh ,dear,”said Grandad. “It was the best tree ever,”said Emma. “We could climb into the branches and hide there. No one could see us.” “And now I will have to cut it up for firewood,”said Grandad. “Please don?t cut it up,Grandad,”cried Matthew. “We could still play on it .” “Yes,”said Emma. “It could be our rocket ship.” “We could fly all over the place in it .”said Matthew. “Come on ,Emma.” Matthew and Emma raced over to the tree and climbed up. “I?m the captain,”said Emma. “Are you ready for take-off , Matthew?” “Ready , Captain!” shouted Matthew. “Ready to fire the rockets ….. now! -7-6-5-4-3-2-1!” 10-9-8 “We have lift-off!” Emma shouted back at him. “Here we go!” “Whoosh!” laughed Gran and Grandad. The Blow-away Kite Mum and Dad gave Ben a beautiful kite for his birthday. It was pink and orange, with a red tail. It had a long string that went round and round a white plastic ring. “Let?s go down to the beach and fly it!” said Dad. “It?s a good day for flying a kite.” They took the kite down to the beach. “We will show you what to do.” Mum said to Ben. “Put your arm in the plastic ring. Then the kite won?t blow away from you.” Ben put his arm in the ring and held onto the string. Dad held the kite up, and Ben started to run down the beach. Then Dad let go of the kite. The kite went way up into the air. They all watched it . Ben was very pleased with himself . “That looks like fun!” said Dad. “You can have a turn now,” said Ben, as he pulled the kite down. “But please be careful with it .” “I?ll be careful,” said Dad, and he ran along the beach with the kite. Dad was looking up at the kite. He was not watching where he was going. Dad tripped over, and the string slipped out of his hand . The kite went flying away in the wind. The kite went out over the waves. “Oh ,no !” cried Ben. “My new kite has gone! I will never get it back.” But then the kite splashed down into the sea. Dad ran down the beach and right into the waves. He saved the kite just in time. “I?m sorry I let your kite go ,” Dad said to Ben. Ben and Mum laughed. “You have to put your arm in the plastic ring ,”said Ben. “Then it won?t blow away from you!” The Little Blue Horse Clare was Abby?s best friend. When she went to Abby?s place, they always played with Abby?s toy horses. Clare and Abby would make the horses go across the table and jump over little fences. The horse that Abby liked best was a little blue one with a long white tail. Abby was always careful when she played with it. She didn?t want her best horse to get broken. But one day, the little blue horse slipped out of Clare?s hand and a leg broke off. Clare looked down at the little blue horse. She started to cry. “Don?t cry, Clare ,” said Abby?s mum. “I can glue the leg on again.” Clare and Abby watched as Mum tried to fix the horse. “Soon your horse will be as good as new,” said Mum. But when the glue was dry, the little blue horse kept falling over. They could not get the blue horse to stay on its feet. Clare and Abby were very sad. The next Saturday, Clare was in town with her dad. They stopped to look in a shop window. Clare could see a lot of things. She saw some old teddy bears and some old books. And then Clare saw a little horse with a long white tail. It was just like the one she had broken. “Dad , look at that little horse!” cried Clare. “I have to buy it for Abby.” Clare took her money out of her pocket and looked at it. “Do you want me to come in with you?” asked Dad. “No thanks,” said Clare. “I want to buy it all by myself.” And she went into the shop. Then Dad took Clare to Abby?s place. “Look, Abby !” said Clare. “Look what I found in a shop!” “A little blue horse!” laughed Abby. “It?s just like my other one. Oh thank you, Clare!” Chooky Chooky and her nine little yellow chicks were walking around the farm. Chooky was looking for food to give her babies. It rained all night long. It was still raining in the morning when Dad went to work. Ben woke up and looked outside. There was water all over the grass. “Mum!” shouted Ben. “There?s a flood outside. The water could go into Hoppo?s house! She will get all wet and cold.” “Oh, dear !”said Mum. “We will have to move the cage out of the water.” “Hurry!” cried Ben. “We have to save Hoppo!” Ben and Mum got dressed in a hurry. But he was in too much of a hurry. As he ran down to the pond , his tiny feet slipped in the mud, and he fell into the water. The ant could not swim. He went round and round in the cold water. There was no one to help him. A dove was sitting up in a tree by the pond. She looked down from her branch, and saw the little ant in the water. The dove wanted to help the ant. She took a leaf in her beak, and let it fall into the water. The leaf came down beside the ant and he climbed onto it. The dove had saved him! Then the leaf moved slowly across the pond. It stopped by some long grass. But as the ant rested on the grass, he saw a man?s foot right beside him. He looked up, and saw that the man had a net in his hand. The man was going to catch the dove! Now it was the ant?s turn to save the dove. He ran onto the man?s foot, and bit him as hard as he could. The man shouted out, and the dove turned around. She saw the man with the net! Thanks to the little ant, the dove had time to fly away. And that is the story of how the dove helped the ant and the ant helped the dove.
