1. PURPOSE
The purpose of this standard is for the development of the environmental friendly vehicles over a period of time
from production to junk, to regulate 4 kinds of heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Cr6+ and Hg) on materials and components of
parts being used in vehicles.
2. SCOPE
2.1. This standard applies to export vehicles to Europe(including East Europe) designated as category M1(up to 9-
seater passenger car, van, RV, etc) or N1(up to 3.5-ton truck in gross weight) and covers materials and
components as well as spare and replacement parts based on EU Directive 2000/53/EC.
2.2. The standard is also applied to the case that the specifications of the above-mentioned vehicles are changed
due to the use of alternative parts or material.
2.3. This standard applies to the materials and components existed in the final product excluding the materials and
components consumed in the process.(for the example cutting oil, wash water)
2.4. This standard applies to not the assembly parts but the materials and components of parts.
3. DRAWING INDICATION
This standard must relate to the indication below for drawings and other specifications of material and
components that are used.
“Materials and components of parts must comply with EDS-A-0101”
4. Requirements
4.1. Materials and components of vehicles should not contain the heavy metals, such as lead(Pb), cadmium(Cd),
hexavalent chromium(Cr6+) or mercury(Hg). However in case this substance is not intentionally introduced below
limit listed in Table 1 is an exception.
※ Here “intentionally introduced” shall mean “deliberately utilized in the formulation of a material or component
where its continued presence is desired in the final product to provide a specific characteristic, appearance or
quality”.
4.2. As the other exception, materials and components of vehicle listed in Annex 1(see the Annex 1) can use until
the expiry date of the exemption. Some of these materials and components should be labeled. For the labeling
Design department(Design plan department) should submit informations about components’ image, position, name,
number, material and weight to recycling team. And recycling team should make out ‘dismantling information’ and
send this information to IDIS(International dismantling information system)

4.3. In the case of parts ordered from outside suppliers, suppliers should submit the document, including ‘Supply
part list’ (See the Annex 2), ‘Hazardous substances report’ (See the Annex 3), ‘Confirmation letter’ (See the Annex
4) & ‘Test report’ related hazardous substances, to Supplier Quality Assurance Team through PPAP.
4.4. In the case of in-house parts, which made in the GMDAT plant, each production department should submit
the document, including documents except 'Confirmation letter' listed in 4.3, to Quality Control Department. In the
case of raw materials supplied by GMDAT, Raw material supplies should submit all the documents lists in 4.3 to
Supplier Quality Assurance Team through WWP.
4.5. Supplier Quality Assurance Team and Quality Control Department should include this Spec.(EDS -A-0101) in
PPAP.
※ When submitting, an Excel file including inquiry result, must be contained.
Table 1. The limit of concentration not intentionally introduced
Division The limit of concentration not intentionally introduced
(ppm)
Lead (Pb) 900 (0.09)
Cadmium (Cd) 90 (0.009)
Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) 900 (0.09)
Mercury (Hg) 900 (0.09)
※ ppm means parts per million, for example 1ppm means that hazardous materials contains 1mg in the
1kg material.
※ The relation between ppm and wt % : 1 wt % = 10,000ppm

Test method is shown in Annex 5. If there are no test method, in the case components used Pb, Cd, Hg or Cr 6+
substances should be reported the amount used and in the case components not used these substances should be
submitted 'Confirmation letter'.
If European standard methods for test method are designated, we will follow it.

※ If there does not include specific test method for hazardous substances, hazardous test should perform as
follows. Through the discussion about the test method with test organization, proper test method should be
fixed firstly. And it must be carried out with proper test method test. Test organization and supplier should
submit the report, which includes the explanations of the specific test method and its results.
※ Hg Test method
1. If there is test method in above table (for example, paint, alloyed copper, lubricant oil), test report should be
submitted after test.
ㅇ Artificial case : change for the better -> draw up a plan
ㅇ Having chance to include impurities case :
- Exceed 900ppm (set limit) impurities : submit the test result -> draw up a plan
- Less than the limit -> submit the test result
2. If there is no test method
