With the help of video and pictures, Ss can understand the chant and read it correctly, clearly and emotionally; 2. Ss can write a story about the polar bear and describe the Arctic animals according to the key words and sentences; Language knowledge objectives: 1. Ss get to know something about the polar bear with the help of video and describe the polar bear. 2. Ss recognize the names: the polar bear, the arctic hare, seal, snowy owl, lemming. . Ss can use the sentences in the chant to write a story about the polar bear and 3 describe other arctic animals with the help of the picture. Emotional objectives: 1. Ss are glad to know the foreign culture;they are willing to communicate with the language they have learnt in class. 2. Ss can cooperate with partners to complete their task. Teaching aids:CAI, word cards,pictures and globe Teaching process: Step 1: Review the knowledge about the Arctic in last lesson. 1. Ss look at the puzzles and say something about the Arctic. T: What do you know about the Arctic? Where is it? What can you see? How about the seasons? 2. T shows the arctic animals stickers, introduce how to use it. T: We can also see the arctic animals in the arctic. Look, today I have some arctic animals stickers for you. If you do well, you can get one. If you do better, you can get two or three. Step 2: Lead in 1. Nicola?s message leads the video about the polar bear. Students watch the video and learn to say “ polar bear”. Then the pupils continue to watch with the questions “What color ? Big or small? What can they do? What do they eat?” At last, students talk about the polar bear. 2. Learn to say “ seal, the arctic hare”. T: The polar bears? favourite food is seals. They also hunt the arctic hare. Students listen and repeat the words. Step 3: Learn to say the chant. 1. Listen to the whole chant. a. T: Now, let?s listen to a chant about a polar bear. Please listen carefully. b. Students answer: What animals are there in the chant? What does the polar bear want to do? c. Focus on “wants”. Read in groups. d. Students guess how the polar bear catch the hare. T: The polar bear is hungry. He wants to catch a hare. But how does he catch the hare? Can you guess? 2. Learn to say the paragraph 4. a. Listen and number the pictures. b. Learn to say: He jumps in the water. The pupils watch the cartoons and say. Pay attention to “jumps”. Boys read it, then girls read. c. Learn to say: He swims across the lake. Teacher uses two different cartoons to help the pupils understand “across”. Students read „across? one by one, then read the sentences. He swims inthe lake.lake He swims acrossthe lake.across d. Learn to say: He walks through the snow. Teacher uses this picture to help the pupils understand „ through? Students read „through? one by one, then read the sentences. e. Learn to say: He runs up the hill. The pupils watch the cartoons and say. Pay attention to “up”. Boys read it, then girls read. f. Read the four sentences in groups and try to remember them. Then show in class. g. Look and say: 3. Learn to say the paragraph 5 a. Students retell according to the pictures: The polar bear is hungry. He wants to catch a hare. He jumps in the water. He swims across the lake. He walks through the snow. He runs up the hill. T: The polar bear is very hard. But does he catch the hare? Let?s listen. b. Listen again, choose and complete. When he comes to the top. (Teacher uses the picture to show what „top? is.) He comes to a stop. He looks around.(Teacher acts what „looks around? is. ) And what?s not there? The hare, the hare, the arctic hare. A pupil reads the paragraph, others repeat. 4. Students listen to the whole chant and read in a low voice. 5. Find out the rhyming words, then read the chant. Teacher points the rhyming words in paragraph 5. Students find out other rhyming words in each paragraph. At last, Students read the chant together. Step 4: Rewrite the chant into a story. T: Look at the first paragraph, what?s over ther? S: A polar bear is over there. T: How is the polar bear? S: He is hungry. T: How do you know? S: He wants to catch a hare. T: How does he catch the hare? S: He jumps in the water. You can talk with your partner, then write a story about the polar bear. Students talk in groups. Then students read out their story in groups. Teacher writes on the board: A polar bear is over there. He is very hungry. He wants to catch a 1 hare. First, he jumps in the water and swims across the lake. Then, he walks through the snow. At last, he runs up the hill. 2 But when he comes to the top. He stops and looks around. The arctic hare is not there. 3 … The end Step 5: Know more about the arctic animals and talk about them. Teacher shows the picture: Students talk about the arctic animal in groups, then each groups choose a pupil to tell something about the arctic hare.
