General idea: Harold Bride was only 21 years old when he got a job aboard the Titanic. This huge ship was to make its first voyage from England to the United States. But it was heading for disaster. Harold did his job to help people on the ship. He luckily survived yet his good friend Jack did not. Harold knew that the ones who sacrificed themselves to save other people were the real heroes. 2. Reading passages aloud 3. Retelling the story Chapter1: Picture 1(P4-P5):First sight of the Titanic took my breath away. Picture 2(P6):The difference between first-class and lower class passengers Picture 3(P7):Our job in the radio room Retelling the story as the beginning: It was in April 1912 and I was offered a new job on the Titanic as the ship’s radio operator. When I first saw the amazing ship, I couldn’t hold my breath… 4. Understanding the theme (1)Discuss the following questions: Why weren’t they worried at first? How did Harold survive? Was Harold happy to survive? Why? What is the theme of this story? Will you lose hope and do nothing when there seems to be no chance to survive? Will you run for your life or sacrifice yourself to help others? Can you think of ways to help other people every day? 5. Assignment (1)Write a story about the following information: A good friend, share a cabin Worked hard for the passengers Went on sending messages as the ship sank Jack was a hero ②Write a short passage about a disaster. (2)Read the next book.
