Memories of the South!
Most fondly I remember Hangzhou.
Visiting temples in the hills
in quest of cassia seeds dropped from the moon;
Watching the tidal bore
from my pillow in the pavilion of my room.
When shall I ever revisit Hangzhou?
“Memories of the South II”
– Written by Tang Dynasty poet, Bai Ju Yi (722-846 AD)
after leaving Hangzhou for the north.
In the spirit of a traditional Chinese village, Amanfayun is a place to
explore – a place of stone pathways leading to shaded courtyards,
quaint restaurants and peaceful abodes. Situated on 14 hectares on
the outskirts of Hangzhou, the resort is comprised of 47 dwellings
surrounded by tea fields, natural forests and lush groves of bamboo.
Located along Fayun Pathway,
the village’s main thoroughfare,
are a number of eateries. These
imbue Amanfayun with the
ambience of a vibrant community,
providing homecooked cuisine
in humble surrounds. The Steam
House is a casual venue serving
dumplings and other steamed fare.
Steam House
Hangzhou is renowned
for its aromatic local
cuisine. Well-known
traditional dishes such
as Beggar’s Chicken,
Cat’s Ear Noodles,
West Lake snow shrimp
cooked with tea leaves
and ‘shuan chai’ soup
can be enjoyed in
this eatery.

Accessed via a stone walkway over a reflection pool, the Amanfayun Restaurant serves Western cuisine overlooking a terrace
above Fayun Pathway. The menu features a number of classic international dishes, in essence offering finely-crafted comfort food.
Above The Restaurant is a meeting and private dining room with two open-air terraces affording sweeping forest views.

founded in 326 AD. Another attraction in the vicinity of the resort
is West Lake (below). With its historic bridges, pagodas, islands and

for sale. Visiting the villages outside the city provides another glimpse of the China of days gone by.
