Step 1: Greetings
Greet the students as usual.
Step 2: 2a-2b Listening
1. Ask the students to listen to the tape and try to number the pictures. Play the tape for the students. Check the answers.
2. Listen and circle the names you hear. Play the tape and check the answers.
Step 3: Work on 2c Pair work
1. First ask two students to read the dialogue.
A: Hello! What’s your name?
B: My name is ...
A: I’m ...
B: Nice to meet you!
2. Then ask the students to practise the conversation in pairs.
Step 4: 2d Role-play the conversation.
Linda: Good afternoon! My name is Linda. Are you Helen?
Helen: Yes, I am. Nice to meet you, Linda.
Linda: Nice to meet you, too. What’s her name?
Helen: She is Jane.
Linda: Is he Jack?
Helen: No, he isn’t. His name’s Mike.
Ask the students to read the conversation and then have a role-play.
Ask a few pairs to go to the blackboard then act it out.
Step 5: 2d Grammar focus and new words
Explain the following:
1. my pron. 我的。
my是I(我)的所有格。类似的还有his(他的)、her(她的)、your(你的)、their(他们的)、its(它的)。
e.g.: My name is Jane. 我的名字叫简。
Her telephone number is 850 8680. 她的电话号码是850 8680。
2. nice adj. 开心的,愉快的。
e.g.: Nice to meet you. 很高兴见到你。
3. hello interj. 喂。
hello一般可作为同学、同事、熟人以及朋友间的打招呼用语,语气较随便,意为“您好”;也可用作唤起注意,如打电话或路上碰见熟人时,都可以说hello。相当于中文里的“喂”,在表示问候和唤起注意时,可用hi代替hello,前者显得更随便。如:Hello/Hi, Bruce! 你好, 布鲁斯!
4. 动词be的自述。
我叫动词be,别看个子小,本领可不少,句中会变形,大家要区分:I后am,you后are,is跟着他、她、它,单数后面用is,复数后面一定用are。
5. meet v. 遇见;相逢。
e.g.: Let’s meet for dinner. 让我们相聚吃晚饭吧。
Step 6: 3a Complete the conversation and practise it with your partner.
A: Hi,__________ your name?
B: My ______ Gina. _______ you Tom?
A: _____, I’m not. _________ Bob.
B: Hi,________. _____ to meet you.
A: Nice to _____you, too.
Give the students a few minutes to do it and ask them to practice it in pairs.
