calattentionsfromAmericaandabroadandmanystudieshave beendoneonthisnovelfromdifferentperspectives．someschol· arsstudyitfromthematerialisticangleanddiscussdeterminism andsocialDarwinismdisplayedinit．Moreover，criticshave beenextendingunanimouscondemnationtoCarrieandlabeled her嬲afallenwoman．Besides．othersdiSCUSSthethemeofCar- tiespursuitofself—realization． II．AmericanDreamandMoralityinSisterCarrie AmericanDreamhasbeenoneofthemostidealdreams throughouttheworld．ItoriginatedfromthePuritanbeliefof buildingacityuponahill．Lateroll，itdevelopedintoakindof deviatedfromitsoriginaltrack，sothereappearedanabnormal phenomenontomakeyouridealdreamcometrue，youhavetodo somethingimmoral．Thepaper，basedonethicalliterarycriti- cism，analyzessomemaindetailsconcerningtheheroine’8 (SisterCarrie’s)crucialbehaviorandcriticalthinking，points outthatthemoraltendencyofSisterCarrieisinfluencedgreatly bythesocialenvironmentandconcludesthatthenovelSister Carr／eismeaningfmandnaturalisticinreflectingthesocialprob· lemsofthatveryperiod(HuangKaihong)． InSisterCarrie，theauthorshowstheprocessoftheerosion wishissimple：beautifulclothes，enoughmoneyandremarkable reputation．Shedoesn’tcarethewaystoachievehergoal．She willneverbesatisfiedwithwhatshehasgained．There眦 alwaysnewaimsinhermind．Hersecondaimistopursuemore prosperity．Thirdly，Carriehasanotheraim，thatisspiritual demand． V．FeministPerspectiveStudyofSisterCarrie GuopingholdsthatCarriehasnotconfinedherpursuitin theaspectofmaterialwelfarealone，andshealsopursuesbravely theself—realizationofaNewWoman．Itismorecommendable thatshehasshiftedheriuitiMsimplematerialdesiretotheput- suitofnoblespirituallifeforthebeautyofart．Inthemaster’s thesis，Guoalsoillustratestheprocessofself—rebuildingofCar- rie，includingtheprocessofformation，deprivationandrebuil- dingofherself． Ⅵ．Conclusion Basedontheabovestudy．weCallfindthatthemainlyfo- cuseonCarrie’supsanddowns，theevaluationofCarriefrom differentperspectives．Therearefourmajoranglesinstudying thenovel：Americandreamandmorality，CrisisofEcological Ethics．TheanalysisofthecharacterofCarrieandFeministper- spectivestudy。Amongthem，feministperspectiveisanewone， whichgiveapositiveevaluationtoCarrieshowingtheprocessof theself—realizationofaNewWoman．Throughoutthereviewof thestudy，theauthorpointsoutsthatSisterCarrieissignificant inpresentChinainenlighteningpeople’svalueandwomen’s socialposition．InSisterCarrie，therearestillalottobefurther 嘉莉妹妹是美国作家西奥多·德莱塞的第一部小说，这是一部极具思想和艺术内涵的作品。小 说以19世纪末20世纪初的美国为背景，展示了当时的美国社会正经历的巨大的变革。工业化的出现改变了人们 的生活方式，也改变了人们的思想，尤其是女性的思想。嘉莉正是这个时期女性的典型代表。这部小说很受中国 读者和学者的欢迎，一些中国学者从不同的角度探索和研究了嘉莉妹妹，笔者通过梳理其研究成果发现，这些研究
