有所关联，那就是介绍华语音乐。在华语流行音乐和电影方面，我都被视为正在代表着华语流行的大使，不管我喜不喜欢。那么今天，我就想与大家分享一个联盟演讲，不是牛津“联盟”，而是中西联盟。Iwanttofranklyandopenlyandhonestlytalkabouthowwe’vedoneagoodjob,orhowwe’vedoneabadjob,ofbringingChinesepoptotheWest.AndIalsoWanttoimpressuponallofyouheretodaytheworkingsofthatsoftpowerexchangeandhoweachofusisinvolvedinthatexchange.我想要以坦白，开放和诚恳的方式来解析我们是如何把华语流行带来西方，无论是在好的或坏的方面。同时，我也想让大家明白在软实力交流这方面所需要的努力，也想让你们知道在这个文化交流上，你我所扮演的角色。Softpower,atermI’msureyou’reallfamiliarwith,coinedbyRhodesScholarandOxfordalumnusJosephNye,isdefinedastheabilitytoattractandpersuade,ShashiTharoorcalledit,inarecentTEDTalk,“theabilityofaculturetotellacompellingstoryandinfluenceotherstofallinlovewithhim”.Ilikethatdefinition.ButIwanttoputitinaplainertermforyoustudentsintheaudience.ThewayIseeit,EastandWest,arekindalikefreshmenroommates,Youdon’tknowalotabouteachotherasidethatyou’relivingwitheachotherinthesameroom.Andeachoneisscaredtheother’sgonnastealhisshowertimeorwantstopartywhentheotherwantstostudy.Ithasthepotentialtobeabsolutehell.Weallhavehorrorstoriesofthatroommate,weallheardaboutthosestories.IknowalotofstudentshereinOxfordhavetheirownseparatebedrooms.软实力，我相信大家应该都很熟悉这个名词，由RhodesScholar和牛津校友JosephNye创立，被定义为“吸引和说服能力”。在最近的TED演讲，ShashiTharoor说：“软实力，指的是用文化说出一个引人入胜的故事，继而影响他人，让大家爱上它。”我喜欢这个说法。但我想把它载转成你们身为一位学生可以理解的说法。在我看来，东方和西方，就像是大学一年级的室友。大家都不认识彼此，但你们即将在同一屋檐下生活。每一个人都害怕对方会抢走了你的洗澡时间，或是当你想要玩乐时，对方却想要学习。它有可能会成为你的梦魇。我们大家都有经历过、或是有听说过室友很恐怖的遭遇。当然我知道现在很多牛津学生都拥有了各自的独立卧室。ButwhenIwasafreshmanatWilliamsCollege.WellIhadaroommate.Andhewasthatroommate.Let’sjustcallhimFrank.SoFrankwasmyroommateandFranklikednothingmorethantosmokeweed.[laughter]Andhediditeveryday.AndFrankhada2-footlongbongunderhisbedthatwasconstantlybeingfiredup.ForthoseChinesespeakersintheaudience,Frankwould火力全开onthatbong.SoIguessIwaskindatheoppositeofBillClinton,whotriedmarijuanabutdidn’tinhale;Ididn’ttrymarijuanabutIdidinhale.Everysingleday.Secondhand.Andstrangelyenough,everytimeIgointoourbedroom,Imysteriouslyendupbeinglateforclass.Iwaslike,dudeisitalready10o’clock?当我还是威廉姆斯大学的新生时，我有个室友，就叫他Frank吧。Frank什么都不喜欢，就只喜欢抽大麻。他每一天都在抽大麻。他有一个长达两英尺的烟斗在他的床底下，不断地被点燃。在座会说中文的同学，你们一定会说Frank每一天都在火力全开。我想我和BillClinton是相反的，他是抽大麻，但从不吸入，而我是不抽大麻，但每天都吸入大麻的二手烟。很诡异的是，每一次回到房间后，我都会变得模糊，导致自已上课迟到。每次我都是在醒来时才发现，天啊，现在已经是10点了吗？SO,howmanyofyouhavelivedwiththatFrank,orbeaFrank?Havingaroommatecanbearecipefordisaster.Butitalsocanhavethepotentialofbeingthegreatestfriendshipyou’veeverhad.See,Frank,hedidn’tmakeittosecondyear.AndIgottwonewroommatesinstead:StephanandJason,andthesedaysthethreeofusarethebestoffriends.Sogoingbacktomyanalogy,EastandWest,asroommates,dowewanttobeFrank,ordowewanttobeStephandJason,andIthinkinthisdayandage,in2013,weshouldallbestrivingforthelatter.I’massumingweallagreethatthisisthegoalthatweallstrivefor.所以，你们多少人当中有和Frank这样子的人生过，或是你们就是Frank？拥有一个室友有可能是一场灾难的开始，但也有可能是你这辈子建立一段非凡友谊的始端。Frank第二年就辍学了。之后我迎来了两位新室友。Stephan和Jason，那些日子，我们三人就是最佳好友。回到这个相似的论点，东方和西方，就像是室友，我们要变成Frank，或是要成为Stephan和Jason？在我看来，在现今社会，2013年，我们需要的是努力成为后者。我就当作这是我们的共识。There’sactuallyanextremelyhighamountofnegativityandfearandanxietyaboutChina,Sinophobia,thatIthinkisnotjustmisinformedandmisleadingandultimatelydangerous.Verydangerous.AndwhatabouthowWesternersareviewedbyChinese?Well,wehavetermsforWesterners.Themostcommonofwhicharegwailo,inCantonesewhichmeans“theolddevil”,laowai,meaning“theoldoutsider”inMandarin,angmoh,whichmeans“theredhairyone”inTaiwanese,andthelistgoesonandon.Soaretheseroommatesheadingforabestfriedrelationship?Ithinkweneedalittlehelp.AndasChinarisetopower,Ithinkitismoreimportantthaneverforustomorediscerningaboutwhatwebelievebecauseafterall,Ithink,that’sthepurposeofhighereducation,andthat’swhyweareallhere,tobeabletothinkforourselvesandmakeourowndecisions.很多人对中国有着负面的印象，恐华，而我觉得那些都是因为一些错误的讯息，被大家误解了，而最终，这些误解会变得很可怕，也非常危险。反之，西方人在中国人看来又是如何？当然，我们对西方人有很多的称呼。最常听到的是“Guailou”，广东话的意思就是老魔王，“Laowai”，中文意思就是外国人，“Angmoh”，台湾人的意思就是红发人，还有很多很多。然而，这样看来，这些室友可以发展成好朋友的关系吗？我认为我们需要一点帮助。随着中国的实力变强大了，我觉得我们有需要识别我们所相信的，毕竟这就是高等教育的目的，所以我们才坐在这儿，培养自己有能力去独立思考和做出自己的 。China’snotjustthoseheadlines.Theburgeoningeconomywithuniquepolitics.Itisnotjusttheworld’sfactoryorthenextbigsuperpower,it’ssomuchmore,abillionpeoplewithrichculture,amazingstories,andasaproductofbothofthosecultures,Iwanttohelpfosteranunderstandingbetweenthetwo.Andhelpcreatethatincrediblerelationship.Becauseknowingbothsidesofthecoin,Ireallythinkthatthereisalovestorywaitingtobetold,readytounfold.AndI’monlyhalfjokingwhenIsaidlovestorybecauseIbelieveitisthestoriesthatwillsaveusandbringusclosertogether.中国当然不能透过那些新闻头条来定义。在独特的政治策略下有着非常快速的经济成长。中国不仅仅是世界最大的制造工厂，或是下一个强大的国家，他还有更多值得大家去发掘的。中国拥有着数亿人口、很丰富的历史文化、也有许多传奇故事。在这两大文化的熏陶下，我想要促进这两大文化的加深了解，进而发展一段令人难以置信的关系。因为对它们的了解，我真的认为有一个爱情故事即将要上演，等着被揭开。我说的爱情故事并不是在开玩笑，因为我相信那些故事能够拯救我们，把我们凝聚在一起。Andmythesisstatementfortoday’stalkisthattherelationshipbetweenEastandWestneedstobeandcanbefixedviapopculture,andI’mgoingtotryandbackitup.Now,theUNSec-GenBanKiMoonsaid,“therearenolanguagesrequiredinthemusicalworld.Thatisthepowerofmusic.Thatisthepowerofheart.”Throughthispromotionofartswecanbetterunderstandthecultureandcivilizationofotherpeople.Andinthiseraofinstabilityandintolerance,weneedtopromotebetterunderstandingthroughthepowerofmusic.TheUNSec-Genthinksthatweneedmoremusic,andIthinkthatheisright.Musicandartshavealwaysplayedakeyroleinmylife,inbuildingrelationships,replacingwhatoncewereignorance,fearandhatred,withacceptance,friendshipandevenlove.我演讲的主题是：通过流行文化修复东西方的关系。很复杂，我会想办法讲明白的。联合国秘书长潘基文说过，“在音乐世界里，沟通是无需语言的，这就是音乐的力量。这就是心灵的力量”。通过艺术我们能够更加了解其它民族的文明与文化。在这个动荡不安、不甚宽容的年代，我们需要透过音乐的力量来了解彼此。联合国秘书长认为我们需要更多的音乐，这一点我很赞同。音乐和艺术一直在我生命中占据着重要的地位。能够帮助建立人与人之间的关系，用包容、友谊和爱来驱逐因为无知而产生的恐惧。SoIhaveastrongcaseforpromotingmusicbetweenculturesbecauseishappenedtomeearlyinmylife.IwasborninRochester,NewYork,IbarelyspokeawordofChinese.Ididn’tknowthedifferencebetweenTaiwanorThailand.IwasasAmericanasapplepie,untilonedayonthe3rdgradeplayground,theinevitablefinallyhappened;IgotteasedforbeingChinese.Noweverykidgetsteasedorbeingmadefunofintheplayground,butthiswasfundamentallydifferentandIknewrightthenandthere.Sothiskidlet’scallhimBryanthecowboy.Hestartedmakingfunofme,saying“Chinese,Japanese,dirtyknees,lookatthese!”we’relaughingnowbutithurt!我的童年经历就是一个最好的例子。我在纽约出生长大，几乎一句中文都不会说。以前我连台湾和泰国都分不清楚。我是一个道地的美国人，直到我上了三年级，有一天在操场上，不可避免的事情发生了。因为中国人的血统，我第一次被人取笑了。当然，平时一起玩的小孩子们都会互相戏弄开玩笑，但这次绝对不同，我那时候感觉到了。我们先管那个孩子叫Bryan吧，他嘲笑我说：“Chinese,Japanese,dirtyknees,lookatthese!”大家都开始嘲笑我，那时候我真的很受伤。IcouldstillrememberhowIfelt,Ifeltashamed,Ifeltembarrassed.ButIlaughedalongwitheveryone.AndIdidn’tknowwhatelsetodo.Itwaslikehavinganoutofbodyexperience.AsifIcouldlaughatthatChinesekidontheplaygroundwithalltheotherAmericansbecauseIwasoneofthem,right?Wrong,onmanylevels.AndIwasfacingthefirstanddefinitelynotthelasttimetheharshrealitywasthatIwasminorityinRochester,whichinthosedayshadanAsianpopulationof1%.AndIwasconfused.IwantedtopunchBryan.Iwantedtohurthimforputtingmeinthatsituationbuthewasfasterthanme,andhewasstrongerthanme,andhewouldkickmybuttandwebothknewthat,soIjusttookitin.Ididn’ttellanyoneorsharewithanyonethesefeelings,IjustheldtheminandIletthemfester.Andthosefeelingswouldsurfaceinastrangelytherapeuticwayformethroughmusic,anditwasnocoincidencethataroundatthattimeIstartedgettinggoodwiththeviolin,andtheguitarandthedrums.AndI’dsoondiscoveredthatbyplayingmusicorsingingthattheotherkidswouldforabriefmomentforgetaboutmyraceorcolorandacceptmeandthenbeabletoseemeforwhoItrulyam;ahumanbeingwhoisemotional,spiritual,curiousabouttheworld,andhasaneedforlovejustlikeeveryoneelse.我依然能够记得当时的丢脸和羞愧。但是当时，我却只能跟着其他人一块笑。还幼稚的我根本不知道该怎么办，只是觉得如果我和在场的其它美国的孩子一样，一起嘲笑中国人，我就能融入他们。这种想法是对的吗？当然不对，大错特错。那是我第一次但不是最后一次意识到这一残酷现实：我属于一个少数群体。当时在罗彻斯特，亚洲人只占人口的百分之一。当时我心里很复杂，我想揍Bryan，他伤害了我，所以我也要伤害他。但是他比我敏捷，比我强壮，如果我去打他，一定会被揍的更惨。所以我忍下来了，我从来没把这件事告诉任何人，一直在心里压抑感受。而我的这种感受神奇的被音乐治愈了。那时我开始学小提琴、弹吉他、打鼓，当然这并不是巧合。很我就发现，在演奏或唱歌的时候，其它孩子就会忘记我的种族、我的肤色，能够真正接受我，了解真正的我：一个感性，对世界充满好奇和想像，也和大家一样需要爱的人。Andbythesixthgrade,guesswhoaskedmeifIwouldthedrummeroftheirband?Bryan.AndIsaidyes.Andthat’swhenwetogetherformedanelementaryschoolrockbandcalled...Nirvana.I’mnotkidding,IwasinarockbandcalledNirvanabeforeKurtCobain’s“Nirvana”waseverknown.SowhenNirvanacameout,BryanandIwerelike,heyhe’sstealingourname!butreallywhatattractedmetomusicatthisyoungagewasjustthat,andstilliswhatIloveaboutmusic,isthatitbreaksdownthewallsbetweenusandshowsussoquicklythetruththatwearemuchmorealikethanwearedifferent.到了六年级，你们猜谁请我加入他的乐队成为鼓手？对，就是那个欺负我的Bryan.我答应了他，于是我们一起组成了小学生摇滚乐队-叫做“Nirvana”，真的我没有开玩笑，我们的乐队在Kurt.Cobain组建Nirvana乐队之前就有了。所以后来当Nirvana出道时，我和Bryan都抱怨：看，他盗用了我们的名字。所以小时候我就发现了音乐的迷人之处，直到现在也一直被它吸引着：音乐能打破人与人之间的隔阂，能够让我们很快的发现彼此的相似之处，而非不同之处。Andtheninhighschool,Ilearnedthatmusicwasn’tjustaboutconnectingwithothers,likeBryanandIwereconnectedthroughmusic.Itwasapowerfultoolofinfluenceandinspiration.SamNguyenwasmyhighschooljanitor.HewasanimmigrantfromVietnamwhobarelyspokeawordofEnglish.Samscrubbedthefloorsandcleanedthebathroomsofourschoolfortwentyyears.Henevertalkedtothekids,andthekidsnevertalkedtoSam.Butonedaybeforetheopeningnightofourschool’sannualmusical,hewalkeduptomeholdingaletter,andIwastakenabackandIwasthinking,whyisSamthejanitorapproachingme?Andhegavemethisletterthatl’vekeptittothisday,itwasscrawledinshakyhandwritteninallcapitalsanditread,inmyallyearsworkingasajanitoratSutherland,youwerethefirstAsianboytoplaytheleadrole.I’mgoingtobringmy6-year-olddaughtertowatchyouperformtonightbecauseIwanthertoseethatAsianscanbeinspiring.上高中以后，我学到了更多。音乐不仅能够沟通彼此-像我和Bryan一样。音乐同样是一股能影响、激励他人的力量。SamNguyen是我们学校的门卫，他是越南侨民，几乎不说英语。Sam在我们学校做了二十年清洁工，却从来没有和学生说过话，学生们也不搭理他。但是有一天，在我们学校一年一度的音乐节前，Sam拿着一封信找到我，我把他带到后台心里想：门卫找我会有什么事？他给了我一卦信，这封信直到现在我还收藏着。信的字迹很潦草，字母都是大写的，信中写道：我在这里工作了这么多年，你是我见到的第一个上台表演的亚洲男孩，我要带六岁的女儿来看你演出。因为我想让她看到亚洲人的表现，想激励她。Andthatletterjustflooredme.Iwas15yearsoldandIwasabsolutelystunned.ThatwasthefirsttimeIrealizedhowmusicwassoimportant.WithBrian,ithelpedtwokidswhowereinitiallyenemiestobecomefriends,butwithSam,musicwentbeyondtheone-on-one.Itwasanevenhigherlevel;itinfluencedothersIdidn’tevenknow,inwaysIcouldneverimagine.Ican’ttellyouhowgratefulIamtoSamtothisday,hereallyisoneofthepeoplewhohelpedmediscovermylife’spurpose,andIhadnoideathatsomethingIdidcouldmeanmorethaneverimaginedtoanimmigrantfromVietnamwhobarelyevenspokeEnglish.Popculture,musicandtheotherentrancesofstorytelling,movies,TVdramas,theyaresokey,andtheydoconnectus,likemeandBryan,anddoinfluenceus,andinspireus.那封信给了我很大的冲击。那时我才十五岁，懵懂无知。那是第一次我意识到音乐的重要性。像我和Bryan，音乐使我们化敌为友，像我和Sam，音乐超越了人与人之间的界限，在更高的层次上不知不觉的影响着他人。我同办法描述直到今天我是多么的感激Sam，他是其中一位帮助我寻找到我生命中的目的人物。我完全没想到过我做过的东西会对那位很少说英文的越南籍侨民有着那么大的影响。流行文化，音乐，以及任何语种讲述故事的方式，包括电影、电视剧，它们都是重要的关键，联系着我们，就像我和Bryan，影响着我们，也激励着我们。Thenlet’stakeanotherlookatthisStateofUnion,theEast,Westunion,withthissoft—powerbias.Howisthesoftpowerexchangebetweenthesetworoommates?AretheresongsinEnglishthathavebecomehitsinChina?Sure,howaboutmovies?Well,therearesomany...thatChinahashadtolimitthenumberofHollywoodmoviesimportedintothecountrysothatlocalfilmscouldevenhaveachanceatsuccess.Whatabouttheflipsideofthat?AChinesesonghitinWest?Well...Hahaha,yeah,andmovies,well,therewasCrouchingTiger.Thatwas13yearsago.And...well,Ithinkthereisabitofanimbalancehere.AndIthinkit’sasoft—powerdeficit,iscalled.Whenwelookinthisdirection,that’stosay,theWestinfluencestheEastmorethanviceversa.Andforgivemeforusingthe“East”and“West”kindofloosely,butIthinkit’saloteasiertostateitthanEnglishspeakinglanguageorAsianspeakinglanguage...Chinese,orCantonesespecifically,IthinkI’llmakeageneralization.Ihopeyoucangowithme现在让我们来探讨这个中西联盟，这个软实力的不平衡。这两个文化的软实力要如何交流呢？有英文歌在中国成为很红的流行曲吗？当然有。那电影呢？有很多，多到中国必须限制好莱坞在中国的引入量，好让本地电影可以在国内取得成功。反过来说，有在西方很红的华语歌曲或电影吗？好的，之前有“卧虎藏龙”，但那也是十三年前的事了。这是有一点不平衡的。这叫做“软实力差异”，就是说西方文化影响远比东方文化来的多。请原谅我用东方西方这种不太严格的说法。但我认为这比用说英语的、说亚洲语言的、说汉语广东语之类的分类更合理一些。虽然是概而言之，但是姑且就这么划分吧。Andit’ssuchinterestingaproblemwiththisimbalanceinpopculturalinfluence.AndIthinkso.Inanyhealthyrelationship,friendship,marriage,isn’titimportantforbothsidestomakeanefforttounderstandtheother?Andthatthisexchangeneedstohaveahealthybalance?Andhowdoweaddressthis?AsanambassadorforChinesepopmusicandmovies,Ihavetoaskmyselfaquestion:Whydoesthisdeficitexist?IsitbecauseChinesemusicjust[islame?].Doyouwantmetoanswerthat?[laughter]YeahIthinkIseesomeofyouarelike,stopcomplaining,writeahitsong!Psydidit!Butthere’struthinthat.Theargumentbeingthat,thecontentthatwe’vecreatedjustisn’tasinternationallycompetitive.Butwhyshouldn’tit?流行文化影响一直很不平衡，我也同意这观点。在任何健康关系上，就像是友谊、婚姻关系，双方面都需要付出努力了解对方。有双方的交流才会有一种健康的平衡。而我们需要如何取得平衡呢？身为一个华语流行音乐和电影的大使，我必须自问：为什么这些差异会存在？是不是因为华语音乐很单调？别急着回答？我想我看见有一些人好像在说，“别抱怨啦，先创作一首好的流行歌曲吧！”Psy做到了！这也不无道理。现在的论点，是我们所创作的作品不够国际化，没办法竟争。但是，为什么会这样？LookatKoreanpop,lookatK-popforexample.Koreanisanexport-basedeconomyandtheyareoutwardlookingandtheymustbeoutwardlooking.Chinesepopontheotherhandcanjuststaydomestic,touralloverChinese—speakingterritories,andcomfortablysustain.Sowhenyou’rethatbigandpowerful,withover160citiesinChinawithamillionormorepeople,youtendtokindaturninwardandbecomplacent.SothiscertainlycanbemadeanargumentmadeforChinesepopnotbeingmarketedwithinternationalsensibilities,buttheothersideoftheargumentIthinkismoreinterestingandthoughtprovokingandevenmoretrue,isthatWesternearsaren’tfamiliarwithandthereforedon’treallyunderstandhowtoappreciateChinesemusic.Ouch!让我们以韩国流行乐为例子。韩国是以出口为经济基础的国家，它们需要也必须向外发展。华语流行音乐反之可以在中国国内发展，在中国巡回，就可以维持得很好。当你生活在一个强大的国家，超过百万人口的城市就有160多个，有着数亿人口，你也会选择留在原地发展，和满足于现状。所以说中国的音乐没有国际化的市场意识也不是空穴来风。但另一方面，我认为这是更有趣，更引人深省甚至更真实的一方面：就是西方人的耳朵对华语音乐不熟悉，所以不太懂和如何好好欣赏华语流行音乐。ThereasonIthinkthattheargumentholdswaterthoughisbecausethat’sexactlywhatIwentthrough,soIhappentoknowathingortwoaboutlearningtoappreciateChinesepopasaWesterner.CosIwas17yearsoldwhenIwentfrombeinganAsiankidinAmericatobeinganAmericankidinAsia,andtheentireparadigmsuddenlygotflippedonitshead.IgrewuplisteningtoBeastieBoys,LedZeppelin,GunsandRoses,andIfoundmyselfinTaiwanlisteningtotheradioandthinking,where’sthebeat?Where’sthescreechingguitarsolos?HereIamasanAmericankidinAsialisteningtoChinesemusicforthefirsttimeandthinkingthat“thisstuffislame.Idon’tlikeit!”Ithoughtitwascheesy,productionvaluewaslow,andthesingerscouldn’tbeltlikeAxlRoseorMariahCarey.我能够理解第二个理论，因为这是我亲身经历过的，所以我知道西方人要如何学会欣赏华语音乐。当我十七岁那年，我从一个在美国成长的亚洲人变成一位在亚洲生活的美国人，而一切的生活模式完全改变了。我是在听着BeastieBoys,LedZeppelin,GunsandRoses的音乐成长的，但我在收听台湾电台的时候，会想着，那些节奏在哪里？为什么没有吉他独奏？那时的我是一位美国小孩第一次聆听亚洲音乐，当时觉得“这些东西太没有水准了。我不喜欢！”我觉得它有点低俗，制作水平有点低，而且歌手没办法唱得像AxlRose或是MariahCarey一样好。Butthenoneday,IwenttomyfirstChinesepopconcert,anditwasHarlemYuperformingattheTaipeiMusicCentre,andasheperformed,IlookedaroundtheaudienceandIsawtheirfacesandthelooksintheireyesandtheirresponsetohismusic,anditwascleartomefinallywheretheproblemlay.Itwasn’tthatthemusicthatwaslacking,itwasmyabilitytoappreciateitandtohearitintherightway.Thecrowd,theywouldsingalongandbetotallyemergedinhismusic,andIcametothisepiphanythatIwasmissingthepointandfromnowon,Iwasgoingtosomehowlearnhowtoget,Iwasgoingtolearnhowtohearwithlocalears.AndIdeconstructedandanalysedwhatitwasthatmadeChineseaudiencesconnectwithcertaintypesofmelodies,andrhythms,andsongstructures,andlyrics,andthat’swhatI’vebeendoingforthepastalmosttwentyyears,andittookmealongtimeandIamstilllearningbutatsomepoint,InotonlybegantobeabletoappreciatethemusicbutIstartedbeingabletocontributetoitandcreatemyownfreshspinsonthetried-and-true.但有一天，我出席了第一场华语流行音乐演唱会，是哈林庚澄庆在台北音乐中心的演出。但他在表演的时候，我看着四周围的观众，我看见他们的样子，他们的眼神和他们对音乐的反应，突然灵光一闪，终于我知道问题出在哪里了。问题不是音乐少了什么元素，而是我们没办法以正确的方式欣赏和聆听华语音乐。那些观众，会跟音乐一起唱，完全融入到歌曲当中。我顿时意识到过去我所忽视的重点。所以从那时开始，我就设法提高对当地音乐的欣赏水平。我学着用双耳聆听，分析着为什么华人观众喜欢某些类型的曲调、旋律、歌曲结构以及歌词特别有感觉。这就是我近二十年不停努力寻找的
