Good afternoon! Distinguished professors and teachers.
I am LiuYu and my supervisor is Lecturer LanHongmei.My supervisor is a very kind person, I have to thank her for her patient guidance. And my gratitude also goes to all the teachers who taught me these three years and to all the professors and teachers who listen to my oral defense and spend valuable time reading the paper and evaluating it.
The title of my paper is Understanding the Phantom's Tragic Destiny in the Phantom of the Opera. When I was in middle school, I first read the novel Phantom of the Opera in the Bookworm series published by the Oxford University Press. And I was very impressed by the excellent story. The story of the Phantom of the Opera is set in the early 1880s at the Paris Opera House. There lives a real person who terrifies everyone and is considered as the opera ghost. But in the end, he sacrifices himself and fulfills other's love. It's really a good novel so I decide to select it as the subject of my paper. And I hope by studying this topic I can make more people know this novel and keep the tragedy from happening again.
This thesis is composed of three parts. Part one gives a brief introduction of the Phantom of the Opera. Part two briefly analyses the phantom's personality. Part three focuses on the reasons for the phantom’s tragic destiny. I hope that this paper will awaken people to the importance of caring others and respecting lives so that we can prevent the tragedy from happening again.
