Step 1 Greetings
Greet the class as usual.
Step 2 Revision
Ask some groups to practice the dialogue in 4c.
Step 3 Presentation
Say:Accidents or problems can sometimes happen when we do sports. Write the letter of each sport next to each accident or problem that can happen. After checking the answers, show the picture of Aron and say:Aron Falston is an American climber. There were many times when Aron almost lost his life because of accidents. On April 26,2003,he found himself in a very dangerous situation when climbing in Utah. So what happened to him? Look at the title of the passage and guess what happened? Ask some students to report their guessing.
Step 4 Reading
Now let’s read the passage. Please read carefully and after reading,please answer the questions in 2d. Give the students several minutes to read and then ask some students to answer the questions.
Step 5 Pair work
Read the passage again and then work in pairs to put the sentences in 2e in the correct order. Then use them to tell Aron’s story to your partner. Try to add other details from the reading. After some time,ask some students to retell the story in front of the class.
Step 6 Reading
Read the passage again and try to finish the two tasks:
1. Read the statements in 2c and circle True,False or Don’t know.
2. Underline the words you don’t know and look up the words in a dictionary and write down their meanings. Then ask some students to report their answers.
Step 7 Discussion
Show some pictures of accidents in life and say:Like Aron’s story,there are always some accidents in our daily life. Look at the pictures and discuss in groups what you should do when these accidents happen. Ask some students to report their answers. Then finish the exercise in 1a by themselves.
Step 8 Listening
1b, Listen to the school nurse. Check the problems you hear.
1c, Listen again. Write the letter of each treatment next to the problems you checked in the chart above.
Step 9 Practice
1d Role-play a conversation between the nurse and the teacher. Use the information in 1b and 1c.
Then ask some pairs to act out their dialogues.
Finally remind the students to pay attention to their safety in life and always be careful. When accidents happen,don’t be panic. Be calm and take correct actions to help themselves.
Step 10 Homework
