幼儿教育质量将影响其未来成长Ifyouthoughtthatthequalityofthechildcareyourtoddler（学步的小孩）gotwouldn'tmatterwhenheorshewasateenager,thinkagain.Anewlongitudinalstudy（纵向研究）ofmorethan1,300childrenhasfoundthatitdoesmatter,morethanadecadeafterthechildrenhavetransitionedfromchildcaretoelementaryschool.Thestudy,thefirsttodocumentlong-termeffectsofroutine,nonrelativecareinalargesampleofchildrenfromeconomicallydiverse（不同的，变化多的）families,extendsthefindingsofpreviousresearchonthetopic.Theresearchrepresentsthelatestinstallment1oftheStudyofEarlyChildCareandYouthDevelopment,whichwascarriedoutundertheauspices2of（由……赞助或主办）theEuniceKennedyShriverNationalInstituteofChildHealthandHumanDevelopment(NICHD).ThestudyappearsintheMay/June2010issueofthejournalChildDevelopment.Theresearcherssoughttodetermineifearlychildcarequality,quantity,andtypepredictchildren'sachievementandbehaviorproblemsatage15.Theylookedatchildrenbornin10citiesacrosstheUnitedStatesfromthechildren'sbirthin1991untiltheyturned15,measuringquality,hours,andtypeofcare1幼儿教育质量将影响其未来成长duringtheearlyyears;collectingresultsofstandardized3testsofachievement;andobtainingreportsfromteens,theirfamilies,andtheirschools.Thechildrenwerefromdiversebackgrounds,includingmiddle-classaswellaslow-incomehomesandtwo-parentaswellassingle-parentfamilies.Thestudyfoundthattheeffectsofearlychildcareatage15,whilesmall,arecomparableinsizetothosepreviously4observedinearlychildhoodandelementaryschool.Specifically,teenswhoattendedprogramswithhigher-qualitycareduringearlychildhoodscoredhigherontestsofcognitive5（认知的，认识的）andacademicachievementthanteenswhoattendedprogramswithlower-qualitycare.Furthermore,teenswhospentmorehoursinearlychildcareduringthefirstfour-and-a-halfyearsoftheirlivesreportedmorerisk-takingandgreaterimpulsivity6（冲动性）thanteenswhospentfewerhoursincare.Theresearchersalsofoundthatteenswhoparticipatedinhigher-qualitychildcareprogramshadfewerbehaviorproblems—includingrule-breaking,arguing,andhangingoutwith（与……出去玩）peers（平辈，同事）whogetintrouble2幼儿教育质量将影响其未来成长—thanteenswhohadattendedpoor-qualitychildcare."Thisevidenceoflong-termeffectsofearlychildcarequalityisnoteworthy（显著的，值得注意的）becauseitoccurredinalargeeconomicallyandgeographically7diversegroupofchildrenwhotookpartinroutinenonrelativechildcareintheircommunities,"notesDeborahLoweVandell,professorandchairofeducationattheUniversityofCalifornia,Irvine,whoistheleadauthorofthereport."Thesefindingssuggestthatthequalityofearlychildcareexperiencescanhavelong-lasting,albeit8（即使，虽然）small,effectsonmiddle-classandaffluent9children,aswellasthosewhoareeconomicallydisadvantaged."3
