幼儿教育质量将影响其未来成长Ifyouthoughtthatthequalityofthechildcareyourtoddler(学步的小孩)gotwouldn'tmatterwhenheorshewasateenager,thinkagain.Anewlongitudinalstudy(纵向研究)ofmorethan1,300childrenhasfoundthatitdoesmatter,morethanadecadeafterthechildrenhavetransitionedfromchildcaretoelementaryschool.Thestudy,thefirsttodocumentlong-termeffectsofroutine,nonrelativecareinalargesampleofchildrenfromeconomicallydiverse(不同的,变化多的)families,extendsthefindingsofpreviousresearchonthetopic.Theresearchrepresentsthelatestinstallment1oftheStudyofEarlyChildCareandYouthDevelopment,whichwascarriedoutundertheauspices2of(由……赞助或主办)theEuniceKennedyShriverNationalInstituteofChildHealthandHumanDevelopment(NICHD).ThestudyappearsintheMay/June2010issueofthejournalChildDevelopment.Theresearcherssoughttodetermineifearlychildcarequality,quantity,andtypepredictchildren'sachievementandbehaviorproblemsatage15.Theylookedatchildrenbornin10citiesacrosstheUnitedStatesfromthechildren'sbirthin1991untiltheyturned15,measuringquality,hours,andtypeofcare1幼儿教育质量将影响其未来成长duringtheearlyyears;collectingresultsofstandardized3testsofachievement;andobtainingreportsfromteens,theirfamilies,andtheirschools.Thechildrenwerefromdiversebackgrounds,includingmiddle-classaswellaslow-incomehomesandtwo-parentaswellassingle-parentfamilies.Thestudyfoundthattheeffectsofearlychildcareatage15,whilesmall,arecomparableinsizetothosepreviously4observedinearlychildhoodandelementaryschool.Specifically,teenswhoattendedprogramswithhigher-qualitycareduringearlychildhoodscoredhigherontestsofcognitive5(认知的,认识的)andacademicachievementthanteenswhoattendedprogramswithlower-qualitycare.Furthermore,teenswhospentmorehoursinearlychildcareduringthefirstfour-and-a-halfyearsoftheirlivesreportedmorerisk-takingandgreaterimpulsivity6(冲动性)thanteenswhospentfewerhoursincare.Theresearchersalsofoundthatteenswhoparticipatedinhigher-qualitychildcareprogramshadfewerbehaviorproblems—includingrule-breaking,arguing,andhangingoutwith(与……出去玩)peers(平辈,同事)whogetintrouble2幼儿教育质量将影响其未来成长—thanteenswhohadattendedpoor-qualitychildcare."Thisevidenceoflong-termeffectsofearlychildcarequalityisnoteworthy(显著的,值得注意的)becauseitoccurredinalargeeconomicallyandgeographically7diversegroupofchildrenwhotookpartinroutinenonrelativechildcareintheircommunities,"notesDeborahLoweVandell,professorandchairofeducationattheUniversityofCalifornia,Irvine,whoistheleadauthorofthereport."Thesefindingssuggestthatthequalityofearlychildcareexperiencescanhavelong-lasting,albeit8(即使,虽然)small,effectsonmiddle-classandaffluent9children,aswellasthosewhoareeconomicallydisadvantaged."3
