英语作文-中国的女权主义feminism in china
Feminism in China Feminism is a collection of movements and ideologies aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic, and social rights for women. This includes seeking to establish equal opportunities for women in education and employment. Prior to the 20th century, women in China were considered essentially different from men. Despite the association of women with yin and men with yang, two qualities considered equally important by Daoism, women were believed to occupy a lower position than men in the hierarchical order of the universe. Women were to be submissive and obedient to men. A number of women, and some men, spoke out against these conditions in the early 20th century. Some of them believe that feminism in China is closely allied with socialism and class issues. That is the China’s budding feminist. Feminism in China began in the 20th century in tandem with the Chinese Revolution. At that time, gender equality had been one of China’s national policies and the slogan "Women can hold up half the sky" was well known. With the feminism movements happened in those days, there were some achievements they have got in the earlier time. In 1902, the foot binding, a cruel rule which was made by the empire, is abolished, ending the torturing on women for centuries. And in 1920, the first female students are accepted in the Peking University, soon followed by universities all over China. This is the sign that women had the equal rights to get higher education. The new Civil Code which made in 1931 grants equal inheritance rights, the right for women to choose marriage partner, equal right to divorce and right to control their own property after divorce and Statute grants women equal right to property, to seek divorce and to inheritance in later years. Beginning in the 70s and continuing in the 80s, however, many Chinese feminists began realizing that the feminism has not been accepted by the whole society for most of the people care more about their living standards than their invisible rights. Many organizations and centers for gender were established after the Fourth UN Conference on Women was held in Beijing in 1995. As a result of government approval, women's rights groups became increasingly active in China these days. However, after years, there are still no big changes in our country. Till nowadays, our people emphasis much less on feminism as westerners. Even some people distort the meaning of feminism and use it in a wrong way. As is well known, China has operated a one child per family policy since the 1970s, and enforces it in a number of ways. Whatever the morality of this practice, it has led to a dramatic imbalance between the sexes. For whatever reason, families prefer sons to daughters, so one would assume this would lead to young women being able to shop around for a mate. Curiously though, it is the eligible women who are becoming "leftover". While women in previous generations were expected to marry in their twenties, many highly educated women are deciding to hold off on marriage into their 30s or longer. Their increased economic power has given them autonomy so they don't need to rely on a spouse. But the Chinese media has still given them the derogatory name, "sheng nv" or leftover women. These women expressed their willing to be independent, but China seems not quite ready to accept the feminism totally. This phenomenon suggests us that the feminism in china still has a long way to go. 继续阅读
