Mark Twain ---- mirror of America Mark Twain is a national characteristic writer in the United States. He is one of the main founders of 19 th-century American realism literature, in terms of realism novel theory and novel language style, making outstanding contributions to the development of American literature and has been called the “American Lincoln” in the literary world. More than a third of time in his life, he is roaming across the United States to experience a new life, and he introduces what he suffered from this world to Americans in the middle of the nineteenth century, which the southern United States is plantation owners of slavery and the northern is the bourgeois system of wage labor.The contradiction between these two systems caused political and economic opposition and concentrated on expressing whether support or oppose on the issue of the slave system. Thinking about that time, every people in American all purse the equality and freedom, but the truth hurts, with the development of the society, there were still a lot of problems dissolved, for example, the racial discrimination, people’s worship of money and the true face of the aggressions. And from that, we can see that after four years of fighting in the Civil War, the industrialized North defeated the South, which not only protected the integrity of the United States as an indivisible nation, but also made American head toward capitalism, and increasing industrialization and mechanizations propelled an economic boom that made American step into a prosperous age, in that time, the vast drained three quarters of the settled United States, although the society developed so quickly, but there were also so many problems existed like what I said ahead. And in Mark Twain’s two Adventures, he shows us the problems in a sarcastic tone, and he also critic the society in which he lived by describing Tom and Huck. Although, Huck and Tom are good friends, but they have different experience. They all purse freedom, but they hold different opinions on it; in Mark Twain’s works,Huck and Tom are orphans, theirs parents all dies, so they have to live by themselves. Thinking about that, it can help us date back the history of European immigrants in the side. As we all know that American is a mixed nation of various races of which European immigrants form the main proportion, and the whole people were orphans. The reason why we called them orphans is because they left their home land. And in that time, the problem of racial discrimination also got more obvious. Huck and Jim, they were from different races, but there was no discrimination between them, they lived very happy. In this book, Jim’s unfortunate fate is the real portraiture of the slaves’ miserabl e life. Mark Twain reappeared this social phenomenon in his works, he wanted to emancipate people mind by his works. In The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Mark Twain also expressed his feelings, Huck is Mark Twain's prototype in real life, he wanted to get rid of his miserable life. Mark Twain thinks that his nationality is a vigorous nation, people should emancipate their minds, and to purse the freedom and the democracy. So we can see that in Mark Twain’s many works, the theme is critique, and the languages in the two novels are simple but full of humor of which the purpose is satire, he was trying to affect the society in a different way. The importance of the Mississippi River to the growth and development of American culture is tremendous, people often compare it with the Yellow Riverand the Yangtze river. Mark Twain's hometown is Hannibal, Missouri on the Mississippi River. In Mark Twain's life, the Mississippi River is an important base "go west" in America in the 19th century, and the two black fighting areas.
