How to Be Successful in a Job Interview To be successful in a job interview or in almost any interview situation, the applicants should demonstrate certain personal and professional qualities. Most likely, the first and often a lasting impression of a person is determined by the clothes he wears. The job applicant should take care to appear well-groomed and modestly dressed, avoiding the extremes of too pompous or too casual attire . Besides care for personal appearance, he should pay close attention to his manner of speaking, which should be neither ostentatious nor familiar but rather straight forward, grammatically accurate, and in a friendly way. In addition, he should be prepared to talk knowledgeably about the requirements of the position, for which he is applying in relation to his own professional experience and interests. And finally, the really impressive applicant must convey a sense of self-confidence and enthusiasm for work, as these are factors all interviewers value highly. If the job seeker displays the above-mentioned characteristics, he, with a little luck, will certainly succeed in the typical personnel interview. On the Senior Empty Nests For most senior students in universities, the last academic year has nothing to do with academics. To the frustration of professors, few courses are attended by students. And dorms are almost vacant with few lodgers. This kind of phenomenon, which has been called “Senior Empty Nests”, is common among universities of China. Where have those absent senior students gone? Some lucky dogs have gone to their new jobs while the majority are still striving to get a job or engaging in their internship outside of the campus. The severe employment pressure has pushed senior students into employment market earlier. The anxiety of getting a job before graduation disturbs the restless mind of every student, which leads to skipping school of most students. In my view, with senior students leaving campus earlier, their time of education has been reduced, which puts them in a disadvantaged position in the employment market. Students should start job hunting after finishing the courses of the last academic year. At the same time, the universities should provide career education for senior students. Working from Home Certain companies, especially some small-scale businesses, start to encourage their siaff to work from home or use home as £t working base for at least part of the week nowadays. Some offer some form of remote working support to their workforces, such as equipping them with laptops and installing broadband, and others pay for the telephone bills for these workers. This worJc pattern is popular because it’s clear that there are a number of benefits for these companies. First, it helps retain employees, especially highly- qualified working parents with childcare responsibilities. Second, it brings higher productivity because the employees have fewer interruptions and less commutiBg time. Last but not feas^ it offers savings on premises and other facilities. However, there are some potential drawbacks. For one thing, there is difficulty of managing home workers and monitoring their performancej and difficulty of maintaining staff development and upgrading skills. For another, it may create a sense of isolation among home workers and it can be harder to maintain team spirit. Therefore, enterprises should weigh the pros and cons before permitting their employees to work at home. Online Learning Perhaps there is something you don't know how to doTTn the past, you might turn to a friend or a relative, attend a night class or go to the local library to find the answer. But at present a lot of websites are springing np to offer free practical advice on these subjects aod actually anything else you can imagine. Why is online learning so popular among people? The answer is obvious: online learning is nuich more convenient. In the past, you perhaps had to spend pienp of lime learning m a night class or going to the library to look for relevant materials. However, now when you run into a problem, yotijust need to click the mouse, then a lot of related websites will appear in front of you* However, not all the materials on the Internet are correct; sometimes they are false. Thus, if you want to lcam something from the Internet, you should make sure what you will leam is completely correct. Online Shopping What vivid and thought-provoking pictures! We see, in the first picture, that a woman holding a computer is paying for something with delight since she is led to believe shopping on the internet is saving, while in the second picture, we see that a man is going crazy for all his money is took away by the computer. With the development of science and technology, it is much more common for people to buy goods through different kinds of media than before, especially the internet. Shopping online is welcomed by most people due to various reasons. From the perspective of consumers, it can save time or money for people. For retailers, it can cut costs for those without much circulating funds. However, there are still some defects in online shopping. First, compared with face-to-face deal, it seems less reliable and trustworthy. Second, people will lose the fun of bargaining and lose their money silently. In my view, although online shopping brings great convenience to us, we still should be careful when we “go shopping” on the internet. We should check the information released by the merchant. Only in this way can we fully enjoy the convenience brought by online shopping without the concern of being cheated. China has decided to end its decades-long one-child policy. All couples are allowed to have two children. This decision has aroused much chatter—whether it is high time that China should carry out the universal two-child policy or not. As far as I am concerned, this policy is in line with China’s domestic situations. Speaking from a macro perspective, this policy is a timely adjustment to China’s changing situations. The aging population has been posing a threat to the sustainable and healthy development of China. This policy will optimize the demographic structure, increase the labor force, ease the pressure of aging population and ensure the sustainable and healthy development of the economy and society. Speaking from a micro one, as the odds of having a weak elderly parent and all the attendant need for physical and financial assistance have jumped many times in just one generation, this policy will bring about many benefits to the family in the long run. In spite of the fact that child rearing is anything less than an easy task, the disadvantages, such as temporarily economic burden, seem to be pale compared with the benefits. The second child, at least, will accompany his or her sibling and in the future, they will share the responsibility to support and care for their old parents. Honesty is one of the most precious virtues in the world, which renders the world we live in dependable. Nevertheless, these days Wei Zexi Event has been heatedly debated online and unfortunately, the situation seems to be worsening, inevitably leading us to doubt the credibility of the information on websites and in some way the reputation of the enterprises advertised online being impugned. It’s the interests that seduce the websites in charge of the internet suffers’ cognition and the hospitals of Putian faction taking advantage of the desperate patients who are seriously ill and eager to prolong their lives into abandoning the honesty. In the era swamped with melamine, lean meat powder and plasticizer, only the enterprises responsible to the consumers can laugh best. What we need badly is enterprises that can be really responsible to the consumers and keep their promises. Only such enterprises can cultivate entrepreneurs of high integrity and shoulder the responsibility to revitalize our nation. As a consequence, honesty is not something that we can afford to lose or leave at large. It is imperative that corresponding regulations and mechanisms with the joint efforts of the media should be introduced and enforced to promote honesty by authorities. The awareness of honesty ought to be enhanced, which will lead us to make every effort to keep our promises and avoid such tragedies as Wei Zexi Event. Only in a reasonable, prosperous and healthy atmosphere can we ensure that people can enjoy their life to the utmost. Honesty is regarded as a virtue by most, if not all, of the world’s cultures and religions. Many of us, if asked to enumerate the qualities we seek in a friend or a partner, would place honesty at the top of the list. In reality, many people seem to think that being honest is for others and not for themselves. However, I believe that, given the negative consequences of lying and deception, practicing honesty is in our own best interest. For one thing, being dishonest can have serious side-effects on our mental health. Dishonest people even if they have not yet been “found out”, are likely to carry guilt and shame inside them. This is because, although lying is an immoral, most liars still have a conscience deep down inside. For another thing, those who misleads or lie to others are bound to be caught sooner or later. Indeed, people may get away with lying once or even several times. However, the one time that they get caught could entail great loss, or even spell their downfall. Depending on the nature of deception, having one’s lies could mean losing one’s job, being deserted by friends and family, or even spending time in jail. Generally speaking, while it may be impossible to eliminate the deceit that exists around us, each of us can decide whether, and to what extent, to practice truthfulness ourselves. Considering the adverse influence that lying can have—— including destroying our mental heath and , ultimately, causing us to suffer great loss—— it is apparent that honesty is our only viable option. Attending TV PK Shows Does No Good to Young People Nowadays TV PK shows are great hits in China and have attracted many young people. Some youngsters even give up their studies to attend these shows in the hope of becoming famous overnight. Some people think these shows provide young people more chance to show talents, while others believe that attending these shows does no good to the young people. As for me, I prefer to the latter opinion。 It should be admitted that some young people like Li Yuchun has stood out from the numerous attendants in the PK show, but that doesn’t mean attending the PK shows is a good way to become successful for young people. The following reasons can support my view. Firstly, TV PK shows breed restlessness and induce young people to hunt after fame at whatever cost. Secondly, TV PK shows can subvert the youngsters’ values. They think attending the PK shows is a shortcut to the success, so they may despise the way of achieving success by hard work. Finally, if the young people fail in these shows, they will suffer a psychological unbalance。 In a word, entering for TV PK shows is not a good way for young people to make a success. I suggest young people should think twice before deciding to attend PK shows。 It Pays to Plan "It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark." You must be familiar with the humorous saying. It informs us of the significance of plan since Noah is planning for the unexpected weather in the future--he commences building the ark when it's still sunny and peaceful. Why does plan play an indispensable role in our life? Making plan will enable us to achieve our objectives more smoothly and realize their dreams more rapidly. The more detailed plan we make, the more likely we are to make full use of time, enhance our work efficiency, and get fully prepared in advance for unexpected cases. For example, a CEO, the head and decision-maker of a corporation, has to draw up a detailed plan for routine work; otherwise, it would be impossible for him to deal with all sorts of complicated things smoothly. Accordingly, we should draw up detailed plans before we start to do anything and do things as planned. "He who fails to plan, plans to fail." A famous philosopher also once said. On a Harmonious Dormitory Life Dormitory life is an indispensable part of college life. But sometimes the harmony in the dormitory can be disturbed in one way or another. As is known to all, a harmonious dormitory life is important to college students and benefits all the members. On one hand, you can have a good rest and put your heart into study. On the other hand, you will have a good mood and enjoy being together. There are several ways to create and maintain a harmonious dormitory life. Firstly, you have to evaluate your lifestyle and try to get rid of your bad habits, if there are any. Secondly, when an annoying situation arises, you'll just have to learn to tolerate each other and coexist. Thirdly, you'll have to share with each other and make good friends. In conclusion, you should make every effort to build a harmonious dormitory life for the sake of good study and good life. A Letter for Gratitude Dear Classmates, First of all, please allow me to Say "Thank you" to all of you. It is very kind of you to spare your valuable time during the period of final examinations and come to see me. Your visit has brought me much confidence and power to overcome the illness. During the first several days in hospital, I felt quite lonely, anxious and frightened. I was almost collapsed by some pessimistic thoughts. But then you shown up, along with your smiling faces and warm words. Your appearance has made me feel that I am the luckiest person in this wonderful world. Now I regard the illness as nothing but a chance to harden myself. These days my condition has obviously improved thanks to the careful treatment by the doctors and nurses. I will probably get recovered in a couple of weeks. I hope that I can see you earlier. Again, special thanks go to all of you. Excess Spending on Campus A recent survey indicates that the monthly expenditure of a college student has been on the sharp rise. Many college students have no concept of thrift in their mind at all. The following factors contribute to this excess spending. First of all, as the only child of their families, many students are the apples in their families' eyes and naturally get more care and pocket money. Some are even spoiled and take spending money from their parents for granted. In addition, with the improvement of living standards, parents can also afford higher expenditure of their children. Moreover, some students like to pursue fashion and trends, which can be quite costly. Finally, campus love is another possible factor causing too much spending. From my point of view, college students should learn to be thrifty. We should limit our expenditure on daily necessities but not buy whatever we want regardless of their prices. The habit of thrift can help us form fight values and is favorable to our future development. Trust Crisis The picture vividly depicts the trust crisis in modern society: the customer doubts about the quality of a bargain, while the seller worries that the bill is counterfeit. This is a worrying social problem, which makes people always suspicious about others, and then affects social harmony. To get to the root of this problem, we should call on the efforts from all sides to recognize the value of honesty and credibility in the fide of commodity economy. For one thing, the government should enact strict laws and regulations to punish frauds. For another, the mass media and education institutes should play a positive role in restoring mutual trust. Finally, individuals should improve their own moral standards, and develop a sense of responsibility for others. In short, being honest and credible is so valuable a virtue that it should be the last thing that can be cast away. Everyone should watch out his behaviors and eradicate immediately the seed of dishonesty once it is sowed in the mind. In modern society, there will be a generation gap if the gap of ages reaches 3 years. This is the so-called“Each three-year age gap,one generation gap”.In the past, people thought that generation gap appeared when the age gap reached 10 to 20 years. But in the 21st century, with the national economic development, the growth of people's cultural knowledge and the improvement of their thought and consciousness, people's individualization and self-awareness have gradually been strengthened.Communication barriers among people appear;ideas and viewpoints begin to differ from person to person, making it hard for one to find resonance with other people. This phenomenon is related to the level of economic development-the more developed a place is,the narrower the age gap will be. As early as 100 years ago, studying abroad was seen as a strategy to strengthen the national power. Now,more and more students crave for studying abroad.Students nowadays are a bit aimless and casual when craving for studying abroad, which leads to many problems like exhausting all the savings of their family, wasting their youths but ending up by giving up halfway and even becoming trouble-making students”with many bad habits. It's better not follow the current craze of studying abroad blindly and it's most important to choose the direction fit for oneself, for“one can perform well in any field”. Kung Pao Chicken, made with diced chicken, peanuts and chili pepper, is a famous traditional Sichuan dish. It was named after Ding Baozhen, a court official in the late Qing Dynasty. It is said that Mr.Ding was fond of food, especially “stir-fried diced chicken”. While he was governor in Sichuan Province, he often entertained his guests with this dish. In order to cater to his Sichuan guests' taste, Ding improved his favorite “stir-fried diced chicken”by putting chili pepper into the ingredients. As a result, the dish with its spicy flavor was more delicious than ever. Since Ding was later granted the title “Palace Guardian”,also called Kung Pao, people named his favorite dish “Kung Pao Chicken”in order to commemorate him. Being ready to help others is one of the fine traditions of Chinese nation.By helping others, one not only offered help to others, but also expressed one kind of self-respect.To help others, one should give up selfishness and shouldn't consider his own interest all the time.Think more of others and initiatively give a hand to those that need help.To be ready to help others, one should live happily and avoid asking for trouble. When helping others, one can get happiness at the same time and enjoy the pleasure of life.To be ready to help others, one should take action actively instead of just saying it.Be down-to-earth, and offer service to others with passion.Even for the simple things, just start doing them bit by bit. There has been an old maxim"Cultivate the mind, and then regulate the family, state and world"since ancient China.Regulating the family refers to getting married and starting one's career. However, getting married cannot come true without a house. Therefore,it is deeply rooted in Chinese people's mind that house is an important signal of home and gives them a sense of belonging. The importance attached to house makes house both a symbol of living environment and a symbol of individual status. The deeply rooted traditional concept and strong sense of belonging attract many loyal and persistent people in the city to join the group which struggles to buy a house. You could say the soaring price of house in China is closely related to Chinese people's idea about house. It is a fine tradition in China to respect the old and love the young. As early as the Han Dynasty, the government issued laws many times to advocate and reward behavior relating to treating the old with respect. The Chinese people treat their offspring with love and education, with kindness and strictness, embodying a strong sense of moral responsibility. The tradition of respecting the old and taking care of the young has been carried forward in modern times. At present, the old and the young in China have their own legal holidays—Elders' Day and Children's Day.Besides, the government has issued specific laws to protect women and children; and some laws also stipulate in explicit terms that Chinese citizens have obligations to take care of parents and raise children. Honesty is to be sincere and upright, and match one's words with his/her action.Being trustworthy is to keep one's word and not to be false and deceitful.Confucius taught his disciples to be honest. In study,if you know a thing, say you know it;if you don't,say you don't.He thought it was the correct attitude towards study. In ancient times, the doors of Chinese shops had on it an inscription“genuine goods at a fair price for all customers.”This shows that since old times China has advocated the ethics of fair trade, honesty towards customers,no deception and no falsification. In modern China, the virtue of being honest and trustworthy has been carried forward. It is to be single-minded and responsible at work and in learning, and it is to be honest to friends and one should practice what he/she says. 《西游记》(Journey to the West)是中国四大名著之一。 Journey to the West is one of the Four Great Classical Novels in China.Published first anonymously in the 1590s during the Ming Dynasty, and even though there is no direct evidence of its authorship, it has been said that the author is Wu Cheng'en since the 20th century. The novel is about the legends of the Buddhist monk Xuanzang's pilgrimage to India during the Tang dynasty in order to obtain Buddhist scriptures.Instructed by the Buddha, the Bodhisattva Guanyin assigns this task to the monk and his three protectors in the form of disciples, namely Sunwukong, Zhubajie, Shawujing, together with a dragon prince who acts as Xuanzang's horse. These four characters have agreed to help Xuanzang go to the West as confession for their past sins. The Tang Dynasty was the peak of Chinese classical poetry and many distinguished poets and poetry appeared during this period of less than 300 years.Up till now, over 50,000 poems and 2,000 poets of the Tang Dynasty have been well-known among people. The best-known poets during the Tang Dynasty are Li Bai and Du Fu. Being independent and full of talent,Li Bai created a great many poems to praise the wonderful mountains and brilliant rivers.Du Fu's rough experiences when he was young made him know better about the darkness society and the people's sufferings. The most popular Tang poems collection might be the 300 Tang Poems compiled by the scholar Sun Zhu of the Qing Dynasty.Tang poetry has had an ongoing influence on world literature and modern poetry.
