专八真题作文
Financial Disparity: A Barrier for Friendship
With the development of the world and the achievement in science and technology, the globe
is becoming increasingly small, and as a result, we can make friends in easier and varied
manners than ever. We can get friends in our daily personal contacts, on the Internet or as we
travel, thus, chances are that everyone may have a large scope of friends. These friends of
our may be of different family backgrounds, distinct characters or varied financial situations.
Therefore, many would hastily leap to the conclusion that financial disparity does not affect
friendship. However, a comprehensive and careful ponder will lead you to a contradictory
answer. In the following context, I am to elaborate on my reasons to make argument
convincing and reasonable.
First things first, financial disparity leads to difference in personal interests. It is said that
friendship is connected or based on the same or similar interests. It is almost impossible for
two with no shared interests to establish friendship. A rich man may take interest in singing
songs in KTVs, dining and wining or hanging about in shopping malls, while a poverty-stricken
man may only afford such interests as reading classics, listening to music or collecting maps,
etc. The financially abundant people may hardly find the hobbies of the poor interesting,
while the impoverished people may be financially unable to engage in the activities of the rich,
thus, they could hardly reach any consensus in their interests and friendship cannot take root
between them.
Besides, friendship disparity results in differences in personal experience. A Chinese idiom
goes that “people of similar experience have sympathy for each other.” Same or similar
experience is also a solid groundwork that friendship establishes on, since similar experience
can help people better understand one another, while lack of it may cause misunderstandings
of this or that sort. To illustrate, a rich people from a metropolitan city may have a broader
horizon, a carefree lifestyle and better understanding of the modern world while people with
financial difficulties may only have traditional and old-fashioned concepts about the world.
When these two come into contact with each other, there is a great possibility that they will
have difficulties in understanding or convincing each other, let alone enter into friendship.
Moreover, financial disparity gives rise to the disparity in personal characteristics. An English
proverb goes that:”Birds of a feather flock together”, friends are often those who share same
characteristics or temperaments. However, people of financial disparity often vary in their
characters. Affluent people often act in a somewhat high-key and self-centered manner, while
the poorer ones prefer a low profile and may seem to be a little self-abased or unconfident.
Judging from the reams of evidence stated above, we may reasonably arrive at the conclusion
that financial disparity is a barrier rather than a stimulus to friendship. So when we intend to
make new friends, we’d better choose the people in the same circle or with kindred
background with us, otherwise the duration or worth of the friendship may hardly be
guaranteed.

Ambition
A saying goes that ”It is ambition that keeps the globe revolving and the world regenerating.”,
though I cannot remember it is remarked by whom, it left a deep imprint on my mind. As for
me, ambition, together with language, unparalleled intelligence, separates human beings
from the animal kingdom. Without ambition, the world would lose its vitality and decay into
a place of spiritual wasteland.
First and foremost, ambition spurs us to struggle for the better. A man without ambition
cannot be called a true man, instead, he is only a walking skeleton. Ambition results in our
ever-lasting and unremitting efforts to achieve the improvement in the standards of living, a
better working environment, a higher salary and so on. With ambition in mind, a man has a
clearer picture of what he desires, what his objective is and a greater resolution to attain all
his dreams.
Secondly, ambition can bring our potential into full play. It is generally acknowledged that
human beings have an immense pool of potentialities, so we need something to help us
exploit them. Ambition, thus, plays such a role: it could arouse the enterprising spirit in the
bottom of our hearts, which, in turn, stimulates our hidden abilities. Before blaming ourselves
for not having abilities of this or that sort, we should first ask ourselves whether we have any
clear ambition in our minds. Such kind of self-enquiry may help you know clear what your
ambition is and make things you thought to be impossible come true.
Finally, ambition can help us realize our dreams and values. As a kind of social animal, we
human beings must do something that is welcomed or acclaimed by the society to achieve our
real essence of existence. Though it is far from possible that ambition alone can results in
success or realization of dreams, ambition could pave the way to success for you. Ambition,
when coupled with unswerving determination, painstaking efforts and down-to-earth manner,
will surely lead us to meet our goals. It is mention-worthy that ambition is the core of so many
elements in bringing your dreams come true.
From the above discussion, we may easily conclude that everyone must bear his ambition in
mind, no matter how lofty or trivial the wish may be, as long as it is practical and we apply
down-to-earth manner in our attempts to realize the goal, our ambitions are bond to blossom
and bring us a bumper harvest when they yield fruits.

Interview
As senior college students, we’re facing with graduation and job-hunting in no more than 3
months. Thus, in our spare time of study, we often think about the ways to handle all the
procedures in job-hunting: selecting appropriate and suitable employers, sending our
applications, preparing for interviews, etc. Among all the procedures, it is undeniable that
interview is the most difficult but significant procedure to handle. However difficult it may be,
I still regard interview as an indispensable procedure to choose the right employees. My
reasons are as follows.
Firstly, as for employers, interview is a good way to sort out the best applicants. Through
communication person to person, employers can easily distinguish whether the applicants
are suitable for the post or not. They can judge it from their words, behavior, demeanor or
attitude. Interview acts as a great sifter by which the good applicants are reserved and these
inferior are sorted out.
Secondly, as for employees-to-be, interview is a great arena to show your ability and to
impress the job-suppliers. Seizing the chance, interviewees can show the employers how
excellent they are, how eloquent they are, what kind of edge do you have on your competitors.
As long as you prepare well for the interview, you can confidently answer the questions
cleverly and fluently, and without doubt the job is almost in your hands.
Thirdly, as for those relatively introverted job seekers, interviews can also be of great value
to them. Perhaps you may ask:” These introverted people are always shy, they can be so
nervous that their face may turn red, and their bodies may even shudder when the interview
kicks in. They stand a fat chance of getting an edge in interviews, why should you say they
could benefit from interviews?” That’s true to some extent, but if looking from another angle,
we may find that interviews provide them with great opportunities to train themselves to be
talkative. After weathered several times of misery and disappointment, these shy people may
learn to become sociable. So there introverted ones should never frown at engaging in
interviews for it is a necessary procedure for self-improvement.
From what we’ve mentioned above, we can easily see that interview is useful and beneficial
to employers as well as candidate employees, no matter he is outgoing or shy. Since interview
is an unavoidable and fairly important procedure in selecting appropriate employee, we
should take it seriously and make a comprehensive preparation for it. Only by doing so can we
land a decent job successfully.

University Students Should Refrain from Going in for Business
Nowadays, there emerged a heated discussion concerning the attitude we should take
towards the phenomenon that university students of increasing number are devoting
themselves to business. Some thought that business-dealing experience would help the
students better adapt to the society after graduation, while others held a negative view,
saying that running shops might occupy too much of the students’ time and energy which
should be devoted to their academic study. I’m in favor of the latter, for I think the
disadvantages of going for business of university students outweigh those advantages it may
bring. In the following context I am to make my argument convincing by elaborating on my
3 reasons.
First things first, we should keep in mind that it is our top priority to study and accumulate as
much knowledge as possible in our 4 years in college. Academic study is a guarantee of our
future career and paves the way to our potential success. Engaging ourselves in business
requires us to spare a huge amount of time and energy that should be used for our studies,
and as a result, we may ruin our studies in the process. Going in for business is not sensible
for college students as it may deprive us of chances to study and get better occupation in the
future.
Besides, college students are often not well-prepared, psychologically and emotionally, to
engage in business. It is often said that the circle of business resembles a battlefield. The
competition there may be so fierce that collegians can hardly adapt to it. It is also true that
businessmen are of various characters and temperament, so it becomes very difficult for
those inexperienced and unsophisticated college students to get along with them well, let
alone make friends with them or make a big money.
Moreover, college students are not financially suitable to explore the business circle. There is
no denying that going in for business needs a huge input of money, which is something most
college students lack. It is impossible to establish business without a decent financial input.
Even if someone has such money, he still stands a fat chance of making success in business,
since he may lack in the skills of money management to bring his money into full play or to
invest his money rationally or proportionately.
From what has been discussed above, we can safely reach to the conclusion that it is irrational
and unnecessary for university students to go in for business at the expense of their academic
pursuits. Instead, university students should bear in mind that study is their priority during
their college life. Only when they’re academically, financially and emotionally mature can
they attempt to engage themselves in business and stand a chance of success.

The Most Important Personal Quality of a University Student: Perseverance
When my eyes caught this topic, my mind began its search for the most important one from
many options such as honesty, diligence, self-confidence, fortitude, etc. After turning this
question in my mind for a few minutes, the best choice finally came to me. It is perseverance
that is regarded by me as the most important personal quality of a university student. My
reasons for picking perseverance out of so many candidates are as follows.
Firstly, perseverance is the cornerstone on which your academic success is based. Although in
college, the study burden is relatively lighter than that in middle school, we still need to spend
most of our time and effort to study. We also know that college students are faced with
various tempts from the society, such as cyber café, amusement parks, and other
temptations which may distract them from their studies. Then, under this circumstance,
perseverance could act as a vital quality to help you resist these tempts and focus on your
academic goal. Only if you apply perseverance into your study while others hanging about in
shopping malls and department stores or indulging in online games in Internet bars, can you
keep free from their influence and achieve your academic goals and build a solid foundation
for your future career.
Secondly, perseverance is also indispensable in applying your knowledge into practical use. It
is often said that to learn is one thing, but to use the knowledge that we’ve learnt is totally a
different matter. We college students often find it difficult to put our knowledge into practice.
Thus, we may encounter many barriers in our first few attempts in the practical application of
our knowledge, and that’s where perseverance kicks in. Perseverance can play the role as a
stimulant which urges us to continue our efforts in face of those difficulties.
Thirdly, without perseverance in mind, we can hardly find a decent and well-paid job after we
graduate from university. It is generally acknowledge that the days when students could find
satisfactory job easily after their graduation are long gone. Nowadays, in order to get a job,
graduates are expected to undergo an intense competition with millions of graduates and
laid-off workers across the country. The status quo of college students’ employment is graver
than ever, and that’s why students often satirically refer graduation to joblessness. Thus, it is
essential for us to apply perseverance into job-application, to face the grave fact in a brave
manner, to maintain our confidence in spite of the cut-throat competition and never lose
heart at our failure. Only if we don’t lose our perseverance can we get the job that we desire.
From the reams of evidence stated above, we can clearly see the significance of perseverance,
which is a must for success in many important attempts during our time in college. Thus, we
should always keep it in our minds and turn to it for help when we’re in trouble.

Education as a Lifelong Process
It is a question frequently being asked that “What indeed distinguishes human beings from
the animal kingdom?” Our responses to this may vary with our own understandings. Some
people may give the ability of thinking and reasoning as their answer, others think the sense
of love makes man different, but as in my mind, education is a unique human activity that
makes human beings stand out in the animal kingdom. Imagine that without the practice of
education, how can we pass down human’s precious knowledge, how can we get ourselves
acquainted with our ancestor’s history? Since education is so vital, it is our responsibility to
engage in receiving education as much as we can, so we need to regard education as a
lifelong process.
The first kind of education is what we get at school. We attend classes, learn theoretical
knowledge which we may apply into practical use when we grow up and enter the society. It
is the fundamental education that we get in the first stage of our lifelong learning process.
The education we receive at this stage lays the foundation on which we can further build our
goals and dreams after our graduation from university.
Education of the second stage is what we receive after we enter the society. We listen to the
directions of skilled and sophisticate workers and follow suit; we endeavor to shoulder our
responsibility by admitting the mistakes we’ve committed; we learn to improve ourselves
after we do some things wrong or imperfectly; we try to teach ourselves new tricks which is
needed at work. This kind of education can help us adapt to the society, improve our social
skills and increase the possibility of a successful career.
Another education worth mentioning is what we learn after our retirement. We need to learn
by ourselves the way to relax ourselves after so many years of stressful and hard work; we
should learn to enrich our lives in a relatively quiet and idyllic way; we are also expected to
learn many things which may help us enjoy our remaining years in
