Step 1 Greetings
Greet the class as usual.
Step 2 Revision
Ask the students to speak out their sentences in their homework.
Step 3 Presentation
Show the students some sentences including the phrases:run out of,take after,fix up and give away and ask them to guess their meanings.
Step 4 Practice
1a, Ask the students to match the sentences with similar meanings. Then check the answers together.
1b, First ask the students to match he phrasal verbs with the nouns. And then ask them to make sentences with the phrases. Ask some students to report their sentences.
Step 5 Presentation
Show the pictures in 1c and ask the students to talk about them in pairs by using the phrasal verbs in 1b. Then ask some students to speak out their sentences.
Step 6 Listening
1c, Play the tape for the students to listen and number the pictures in the correct order. Play twice or more if necessary.
1d, Play the tape again for the students to listen and circle T for true or F for false. Play at least twice.
Step 7 Role play
Say:Look at the pictures in 1c again. Please work in pairs and one is Jimmy and the other is the reporter. Role-play a conversation between them. Use the information in 1c and 1d.
Step 8 Reading
Say:When we are in trouble,we want and need others to help us. On the contrary, when others are in trouble,would you like to help them? And how do you usually thank someone who helps you? Please read the letter in 2b and try to find the answers to the questions:1. Who wrote the letter to Miss Li? Why? 2. What did Miss Li do? After a few minutes,ask some students to report their answers.
Then ask them to read the letter again and complete the task in 2d. Check the answers together.
