黄金准则
1. Life is not fair; get used to it.
生活并不公平，去适应它。
2. The world won’t care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something before you feel good about yourself. 这个世界不会顾及你的自尊，却期望你在自我感觉良好钱有所成就。
3. You will not make 40 thousand dollars a year right out of high school. You won’t be a vice president with a car, until you earn both. 刚走出高中校门，你不可能一年挣到4万美元。你不会成为配有轿车的副总裁，知道你挣到两者为止。
4. If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss. He doesn’t have tenure.
如果你认为你的老师是严厉的，当你有了老板时等着瞧吧！他是无限期任职的。
5. Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping; they called it opportunity. 烙汉堡包不会有损你的尊严。你的祖父母对烙汉堡包有不同的描述，他们叫他为“机遇”。
6. If you mess up, it’s not your parents’ fault, so don’t whine about
your mistakes, learn from them.

7. Before you were born, your parents weren’t as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to your talk about how cool you are. So before you save the rainforest form the parasites of your parents’ generation, try “delousing” the closet in your own room.
你还没出生时，你的父母并不像现在这样令人讨厌。他们是在支付你的账单，洗你的衣服，倾听你说自己有多酷的过程中，才变成这样的。所以，在你从父母那一辈的寄生虫手中拯救雨林之前，试着把你自己房间壁橱里的“虱子”驱除了吧！
8. Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life has not. In some schools they have abolished failing grades; they’ll give you as many times as you want to get the right answer. This doesn’t bear the slightest resemblance to anything in real life.
你的学校或许已经没有省着和败者之分，但生活还有。有些学校已经废止了“不及格”机制，他们极可能多地给你寻找正确答案的机会。但在现实生活中，却丝毫没有与之相似之处。
9. Life is not divided into semesters. You don’t get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time.
生活不会分学期。你没有暑假可以休息，并且很少有老板有兴趣帮助你发现自我，在属于自己的时间里做吧！
10. Television is not real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
电视不是真实的生活。事实上，在现实生活中，人们不得不离开咖啡馆而回到工作中去。
11. Be nice to nerds. Chances are you’ll end up working up for one. 友善地对待卑微之人。因为可能碰巧你会为他工作。
