泰戈尔诗歌赏析 One When mentioned Tagore, one of his most famous poems is doubtlessly the “The furthest distance in the world ”，it is so well-known that almost everyone has heard of it before. However, the origin of this poem is controversial, almost every one considers it was written by Tagore, yet people can not find this poem in his poetry anthology. However, we can not deny the fact that this is a great and touching masterpiece. Here are the two versions which I found about this poem. The furthest distance in the world The furthest distance in the world 世界上最遥远的距离 Is not between life and death 不是生与死 But when I stand in front of you 而是 我就站在你面前 Yet you don't know that I love you 你却不知道我爱你 The furthest distance in the world 世界上最遥远的距离 Is not when I stand in front of you 不是 我就站在你面前 Yet you can't see my love 你却不知道我爱你 But when undoubtedly knowing the love from both 而是 明明知道彼此相爱 Yet cannot be together 却不能在一起 The furthest distance in the world 世界上最遥远的距离 Is not being apart while being in love 不是 明明知道彼此相爱 却不能在一起 But when painly cannot resist the yearning 而是 明明无法抵挡这股思念 Yet pretending you have never been in my heart 却还得故意装作丝毫没有把你放在心里 The furthest distance in the world 世界上最遥远的距离 Is not when painly cannot resist the yearning 不是 明明无法抵挡这股思念 yet pretending you have never been in my heart 却还得故意装作丝毫没有把你放在心里 but using one's indifferent heart 而是 用自己冷漠的心对爱你的人 To dig an uncrossable river 掘了一条无法跨越的沟渠 For the one who loves you The Bird and Fish 飞鸟与鱼 世界上最遥远的距离The most distant way in the world 不是树与树的距离 is not in two distant trees. 而是同根生长的树枝 It is the same rooted branches 却无法在风中相依 can't enjoy the co-existance. 世界上最遥远的距离 So the most distant way in the world 不是树枝无法相依 is not in the being sepearated branches. 而是相互了望的星星 It is in the blinking stars 却没有交汇的轨迹 they can't burn the light. 世界上最遥远的距离 So the most distant way in the world 不是星星没有交汇的轨迹 is not the burning stars. 而是纵然轨迹交汇 It is after the light 却在转瞬间无处寻觅 they can't be seen from afar. 世界上最遥远的距离 So the most distant way in the world 不是瞬间便无处寻觅 is not the light that is fading away. 而是尚未相遇 It is the coincidence of us 便注定无法相聚 is not supposed for the love. 世界上最遥远的距离 So the most distant way in the world 是鱼与飞鸟的距离 is the love between the fish and bird. 一个翱翔天际 One is flying at the sky, 一个却深潜海底 the other is looking upon into the sea. In this poem, the poet used some rhetorical devices such as repetition and metaphor , and expressed his emotions in a progressive way. He vividly made the abstract and vague love story more specific and visualized. Thus we can feel a torrent of the strong, contradictory and fruitless love.. TWO Now, here are some digest from the book Stray Birds: "Stray Birds" contains ideas on nature, man, and his environment as may be entertained by a man sitting by a window where the stray birds of summer sing and fly away. These short, sometimes merely one-line poems are often just an image or the distillation of a thought, but they stay in the mind and do not fly away as easily as the birds. 鸟儿愿为一朵云。 云儿愿为一只鸟。 The bird wishes it were a cloud. The cloud wishes it were a bird 如果你因失去了太阳而流泪，那么你也将失去群星了。 If you shed tears when you miss the sun, you also miss the stars. 大的不怕与小的同游，居中的却远避之。 The great walks with the small without fear. The middling keeps aloof. 想要行善的人在门外敲著门;爱人的，看见门是敞开的。 He who wants to do good knocks at the gate; he who loves finds the gate open. 我不能选择那最好的，是那最好的选择我。 I cannot choose the best. The best chooses me. 我们的欲望把彩虹的颜色借给那只不过是云雾的人生。 Our desire lends the colours of the rainbow to the mere mists and vapours of life. 使生如夏花之绚烂，死如秋叶之静美。 Let life be beautiful like summer flowers and death like autumn leaves. 当我们是大为谦卑的时候，便是我们最接近伟大的时候。 We come nearest to the great when we are great in humility. 错误经不起失败，但是真理却不怕失败。 Wrong cannot afford defeat but right can. 我们把世界看错了，反说它欺骗我们。 We read the world wrong and say that it deceives us. Those short poems above are just like gnomology and they are interesting to read in your spare time and I am sure you can gain some inspiration about the great nature, the world, and the meaning of life more or less, as the same as Francis Bacon once said “poets witty”, the simplest philosophy does exist in these poems.
