Franz Seraphicus Peter Schubert is my favorite composer learned in class. In fact, I have heard some of his works such as Death and the Maiden,The Erlkoenig and Wohin before. Austrian composer Schubert was born in 1797 in a primary school principal’s home in Vienna. He started to learn piano and violin after growing up. He got the admission of the Imperial Chapel Choir when he was elevenyearold and then admitted to the seminary, making a good band violinist. He also served as conductor, which gives him the opportunity to contact the famous works from some famed composers in Vienna.In 1813 he created the “Symphony NO.1” for the band. Shortly afterwards he left the seminary because of the change of the sound. In order to reduce the burden of the family, Schubert came to his father’s school, turning to a teaching assistant. However, He didn’t forget his creation. In October 19, 1814 he composed the famous song using Goethe's poem“The spinning wheel of Gretchen” as the lyrics, which opened the gate of his inspiration of creation. Only in 1815, Schubert wrote 144 songs, and one day in October he even made eight songs. On top of that, he also created a symphony, two Mass and other works. In 1816, he resigned the teacher job, concentratedon composition. Because there was no constant income, life became even poorer.So in some of his works there can be some distressed and depressed moods. In spite of this, he still created a large number of outstanding works which praised the national liberation struggle with much enthusiasm. The long-term hard life made Schubert suffered a lot physically and mentally. In November 19, 1828, only 31-year-old Schubert died in Vienna.He was buried right near Beethoven’s tomb, whomwas adored quite a lot by Schubert in his lifetime even though they met with each other only for several times.
His songs include lyric, narrative, fighting patriotic songs, and there were also some folk songs, in which "Erlkoenig", "trout", "Linden", "wohin", "Wild Rose (2), "Prometheus", "To Music", "Mignon Song", "Spinning the Gresian", "The Lament of the Shepherd", "The Prayer in Fighting" , "Song of the Sword", "Song of the Warrior" are known as influential ones. In addition,the following three songs "Beautiful Mill Girl", "Winter Tour" and "Swan Song” are also very famous. It’s known thatSchubert's symphony is more important in the fourth, fifth, eighth, ninth symphony, of which the eighth symphony is a romantic lyrical symphony, written only two movements and is known as the"Unfinished Symphony"; the Ninth Symphony magnificent, full of heroic, known as the"great symphony". His works covered a lot including the string quartet "Death and Maiden" in piano quintet "Trout", String Quintet in C major, Piano Fantasia, Music Moment, Tune improvisation, A major sonata and supporting music "Rosamund" and so on.Schubert’s thought was quite quick, so some people described his song was like flowing out. One day, in Vienna, Schubert and his friends went for a walk and then came to a bistro. Theysaw the table with a book of Shakespeare’s on it. So they picked up the book and started to read it. Suddenly he
asked: "Oh, a good melody comes out, there is no five-line paper here. How should we do?" His Friends turned the menu over the table to draw the fivelines immediately and handed him. Then Schubert seemed to hear nothing around there. He wrote the song in a breath. That is the famous “Listen, Listen, Lark”.
Although Schubert is not so famed as some other composers like Mozart, Beethoven. But I dare to say the painful experience Schubert had endured was hard to imagine. And I am also very curious about one question, how could Schubert write those fantastic and beautiful songs and tune while living in a poor and tough life. I know that some people consider Schubert’s songs a little sissy and effeminate. But it’s not reasonable enough to deny the great achievements he had made. Schubert lived in the transitional period of classicalism and romanticism. His symphonic style inherited the classical tradition, but his art songs and piano works are completely romantic. The exquisite lyricism made Liszt call him "the most poetic musician of all time".As a matter of fact, Schubert is famous mostly for his over 600 songs. These songs are directly generated from the heart of the poem, no one can beat his full of talent and fresh emotion. The piano accompaniment has special effects. That is to say, it described a murmuring stream with one or two sections, the old street artist Hurdy gurdy, or "lark door of heaven". When it comes to Schubert's song, "Schuhmann can refer to comments on the major symphony" C: "this kind of music brought us into a situation, whichmakes us forget some previous things." And If Beethoven is the issue order for example a husband, then Schubert is like a wife on entreaty and persuasion.The outstanding Schubert Sonata should reflect his pure music side, we should learn to enjoy this pure feeling before we want to judge on Schubert. As to himself, it’s said that he is a chunky, witty and gentle man. Though poor, but with his family’s and friends’ help, he managed to continue his work creation.At the same time, it is also said that he is too addicted to sex and alcohol. He was easy to feel manic depression. He was a job mad and probably had the tendency to enjoy the same sex. I have to say no one can be so called perfect in others’ eyes. What is more, everybody has his own character, hobby, concept, and values. It’s hard to tell whether it is right or not, especially when there is no one exact rule. In other words, talking about others’ life style is meaningless, what we should put more emphasis on is what he had payed and sacrificed, and what he had achieved.
