V. Teaching procedures (45 min)
A. Warming-up (3 min)
It includes greeting and free talking. T asks some daily questions to get Ss into the English atmosphere.
At the end of this part, by talking about the weather, T raises a question “what do we need to go for an outing?” Ss will say some words they’ve learned before, including food and drinks. Then the topic is naturally led in.
B. Presentation(25 min)
i. New words learning(15 min)
1. T presents the words on PPT, each with its pictures and singular & plural forms. By asking What’s this? or What are these?, T can help Ss to notice when to use singular or plural forms.
After learning the 10 words, Ss finish the matching task of 1a.
2. “Test your memory” activity: T asks Ss to memorize the 10 words for 15 seconds, and then with books closed, some Ss (volunteers if possible) should speak out as many words as possible in 10 seconds, along with their Chinese meaning. The one who has the most words will get a small gift.
3. After the activity, T writes down the 10 words on the blackboard according to the rules of their plural forms in order to make Ss go over it again.
ii. Dialogue learning(10 min)
1. T shows the target question: Do you like…? With the help of T, Ss answer: Yes, I do. / No, I don’t. Then T gets the students ask him/her: Do you like…? T answers: Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.
2. Pair work: T makes the Ss ask and answer in pairs, using: Do you like…?
3. Listening tasks of 1b, 2a and 2b. For 2b, T can discuss the pictures with Ss before playing the tape.
C. Little Secret activity(12 min)
1. Based on the pictures of 2b, T asks questions such as “Does she like hamburgers?” “Does he like ice creams?” to make Ss get familiar with this sentence pattern.
2. Game rule: T divides the class into boy group and girl group; they will have a small competition.
1) Student A tells T in private ONE kind of food he/she likes.
2) Boys and girls in turn ask questions “Does he/she like…?”, one question each time, and T answers Yes, he/she does. / No, he/she doesn’t until one group guess out that food.
3) For Round 1, T will set an example; for Round 2 and 3, student volunteers will take teacher’s place.
D. Summary & Homework(5 min)
T makes a summary of what they have learned by going over the words and sentences on the blackboard.
Homework: Ss make a survey in English about what food their families like and dislike, and then write it down.
