_1BluetoothisthetradenameofaproductsuppliedbyBluetoothSIGThisinformationisgivenfortheconvenienceofusersofthisdocumentanddoesnotconstituteanendorsementbyIECofthisproduct.Equivalentproductsmaybeusediftheycanbeshowntoleadtothesameresults.--`,``,```,```,`,,`,```````,,-`-`,,`,,`,`,,`---comeintowidespreaduseandacceptance.Recognizingthefactthatequipmentforthesenewtechnologiescouldhavetheantennainsidethebuildingandeveninsidethedevicehousingandbeomnipresentinnearlyanysettingincludingatwork,inthehomeandinpublictransportationcreatesnewsituationsforexposureofequipmenttoRFenergy.Withthenewdigitaltechnologies,thetraditionalmodulationmethodsofAMandFMhasgivenwaytodigitalmodulationswithavarietyofdifferentamplitudeandbandwidthcharacteristics.Whileoveralltime-averagedtransmitpowerlevelsmighthavegenerallydecreasedovertimeduetoimprovednetworkdensityandmigrationofservices,themaximumpossible(peakpulse)powerlevelsinotherbandshaveincreasedsignificantly.Moreover,theincorporationofmultipletransmittingantennas(tosupportforexampleWiFiandBluetoothlinks),evolvingformfactors,higherbitratestofacilitatedatatransferandInternetaccessandtheuseofwirelessheadsetshaveresultedinamorecomplexanddiversepatternofuseandexposure.IncreasedportabilityoftransmittingdeviceshasalsodrasticallyreducedtheseparationdistancebetweensourcesofradiatedRFenergyandequipmentlikelytobedisturbedbythatenergy.Itshouldbeexpectedthatthewirelesstechnologyrevolutionwillcontinuetoevolvewithnewapplicationsusingincreasinglyhighermicrowavefrequencies.Immunitytestingaccordingtoexistingstandards,suchasIEC61000-4-3,61000-4-20,61000-4-21and61000-4-22,maynotbesuitabletoassesscompatibilitywiththecomplexelectricandmagneticfieldsgeneratedbyRFemitterslocatedincloseproximity(forexample,withinafewcentimetres)ofthesurfaceofelectronicequipment.Thepowerlevelsrequiredforthehigherdisturbanceintensitiesassociatedwithsuchverysmallseparationdistancesmaymakeapplicationofsomeoftheexistingteststandardsquitechallengingorcostprohibitive.Newtechnologiesusealsomagneticfields.Thefieldsareinhomogeneousandvaryappreciablyinbothmagnitudeanddirectionoveraregionofspace.Typicallytheycanbegeneratedbymotors,powertransformers,switchingpowersupplies,higher-poweredelectronicarticlesurveillance(EAS)gatesortransmittersofradio-frequencyidentification(RFID)systems,inductivechargingsystemsandnearfieldcommunication(NFC)devices.Thefieldsfromsuchsourcesdecreaserapidlyasthedistancefromthesourceincreases.Becausethesenewtechnologiesuseaverylargerangeofthefrequencyspectrumitisnecessarytousedifferenttestmethodswhichconsiderthephysicalbehaviorofmagneticcouplinginthelowerfrequencyrangeandthemoreelectricalbasedcharacteristicinthehigherfrequencyrange.Additionally,thewidelydivergingphysicalandelectricalcharacteristicsofequipmenttypesthatmaybeaffectedbyportabletransmittersincloseproximity,aswellastheapplicationsforwhichsuchequipmentisused,indicateaneedformultipletestmethods.Atpresentthisdocumentcoversmagneticfielddisturbancesourcesinthefrequencyrange9kHzto26MHz.Inthefrequencyrange26MHzto380MHznotestingisyetdefined.Inthefrequencyrange380MHzto6GHztestingusingaTEMhornantennaisdefined.Ithasbeenarguedthatespeciallyinthefrequencyrangeabove380MHzthespecifiedtestmethodsdonottakeintoconsiderationthepossiblevariationsinfieldimpedancefromreallifecloseproximitytransmitters,whichmayrepresentsourceshavingfieldimpedancesfarbelowthefarfieldimpedanceo
