ThechoosingofacandidateforthePresidencyisextremelyimportantforbothparties.Todothis,eachpartyholdsitsnationalconventioneveryfouryears,inthesummerbeforethegeneralelection.Theconventionisanassemblyofpartybossesandactivists.Severalmonthsbeforetheconvention,alltheaspirantsfornominationbegintheirpersonalcampaignswithintheparty.Hispurposeistohavehissupporterschosenasdelegatestotheconvention.Themoresupportershehas,thebiggeristhechanceforhimtobenominatedforthecandidacy.Thisprocessiscalledtheprimaryelection.
