The topic on my card is to describe a traditional event, and I’d like to talk about China's Mid-Autumn Festival, which is traditionally celebrated on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunisolar month, usually in September or October. The festival is the second most important festival after the Spring Festival to Chinese people. Every year when the festival comes, people go home from every corner of the country to meet their family and have dinner with them.
Celebration of the Mid-Autumn festival has a history of over 3,000 years, dating back to the moon worship in ancient times. From generation to generation, Chinese family members would stay together, admiring the full moon and eating mooncakes on that day.
When I was a kid, I could not understand the importance of family reunion, coz I stayed with my parents all the time. I loved this festival just because I could eat a lot of delicious food and have a short holiday. However, with the time going by, I had to leave home for further study. And everytime when Mid-autumn day came, especially when the full moon floated before my eyes, I would get homesick. It reminded me of the good old days I spend with my parents.
Whatever, this traditional festival brings us some feeling for missing and gethering which I think is what it’s been there.
