Topic: From hobby to career

1. Teaching content analysis
The main topic of this module is turning hobby into career, and the students are supposed to learn some basic knowledge of how to turn hobby into career. During the process of gaining the information, the students will learn some new words and expressions, and still in this way their interest for hobby and career learning can be improved.
This period of class will cover the Revision part and Reading parts. In order to consolidate the students' knowledge of hobby, we will first review some common hobby and the dialogue about hobby.
2. Teaching aims
1) Knowledge:
New words and expressions
The students are supposed to remember and be able to use the following words.
Some important words:business, saw, paddles, cut out, wooden, sand, range, affordable,
plywood, charge
2) Skills: integrated skills training, writing, speaking and reading skills should be improved in this lesson
3) Emotional value: while learning this lesson, the students are supposed to learn how
to turn their hobby into career or business. In this way, we hope to develop
students’ motivation to try their best to achieve their dreams.
3. Focal and difficult points
1) The focal points
New words and expressions, make sure the students get enough practice and be able to read and translate them.
Encourage the students to discuss with their classmates so as to improve their speaking skills.
2) The difficult points
a. Lead the students in practicing using the newly learned words. b. Encourage the students to take part in the discussion.
c. Guide the students in finding out the required information in Reading part. 4. Teaching methods
1) Task-based teaching method in reading part.
2) Communicative teaching method in Introduction part.

Leave 3 minutes to the students to digest the knowledge learned today. Step 1. Greeting
T: Good morning everybody. What a sunny day today. You see, the sunshine is heating our world to make us feel warm. What will you do in your free time in such hot weather? So today we are going to talk about hobby first .
(write the question “ What will you do in your free time?” on the blackboard. In this
way, I can easily draw the whole class’ attention, and arouse their interest as well.) Step 2. Lead-in
1, Propose a question on the PPT says “What is hobby?”
2, Invite a student to give the answers, or just call back the answers from the whole class.
3, Give them four hobbies, and tell them if they stick their hobby, them what position will they become.
4. Give an example to them, and make them make dialogue by themselves using the four pictures.
(In this way the teacher successfully led the topic “hobby career” in, and the students’
interest has been aroused. Using this dialogue to review the dialogue pattern.) 5. Discussion. “How can we turn our hobbies into our career?” a simple question,
aims at having the students talk with their classmates to express their own ideas. What’s more, during this process, the students are reaching the idea that turning our
hobbies into our career is very difficult.
Step 3. Pre- reading
1. Show some pictures about surfing, and let students guess what sport it is. 2. Make students think about what should they get when they are surfing (While doing this activity, students should thank about this question by themselves.)
Step 4. Reading
T: Just now we have discussed how to turn our hobbies into our career, Now, I will give you a good example.Please look at the newspaper and read the passage by yourselves first.
Task one: Learn the new word.
1. After students read this passage one time, the teacher gives seven sentences including ten words on the PPT, and let students look up the word they don’t know in
the dictionary.
(Using dictionary is very important in learning English, students should use dictionary well.)
2. Students should write the meanings of these words on their paper. 3. Words games. First explain the rules, and then play the game. 4. Understand these sentences again after learning these words. (This part is to arouse student’s interest of this passage and let more students to participate. In this way, students should build their confidence.) Task two: Question & Answer
1. Read the passage and questions by students themselves and then discuss these questions.
2. Answer the questions with complete sentences.
3. Choose some students to answer these questions and then check the answers with the whole class.

1. Show the picture of mind mapping, ask students to discuss these questions first.. 2. Answer the questions using the simplest words.
3. Give one paper to each group, and draw the mind mapping on the paper. 4. Show their works and choose the best one.
Step 5. Homework
1. Read this passage more times.
2. Rewrite a short paragraph according to the Mind Mapping.
